West Ham United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Pep clearly not happy with some of the players defensively and in the way they are keeping possession....its about the simple things that Pep is taking about....he wont allow them to keep making those mistakes.
Yesteday everyone could see West ham getting into the game more....what does Pep do..took Reijnders Cherki and Nico G off moving Nunes to midfield alongside Rico Lewis .....
That says everything about what he thought of the performance from the midfield in the second half of the game....none of them were taken off due to injuries and all you have to do is listen to Peps comments after the game....

Rodri comes back in and gets to his level (or close to it) and he is going to play...one less place and someone drops out and I dont thikn its Bernardo - Pep loves him too much and he is so vital
Nothing wrong with any of that, those players were likely taken off partly to rest them and keep them fresh and partly because, as is often the case after a team is losing at half time they'll come out and have a go after a talk from the manager, you have to adjust to suit. But you can't play the entire season with the same XI. There's no reason why any of them can't play and be rotated for whoever is in form at the time. Too many on here write off players too quickly, Doku, Nunes are classic recent examples.

I agree but we have nearly come a cropper a number of times already this season by not killing teams off.. I guess they need to find the balance between the two.
Yes it's a tricky one. At what point do they consider a team to be "killed off"? Fulham got 4, Feyenoord got 3 back from 3 down, Wolves almost did. I think you have to play the percentages and work on the basis that it's going to happen now and again, always has, always will in football, but for the most part you'll be fine while not peaking too early and burning yourself out.

A lot have labelled City's football as boring but I believe this is exactly why we play like we do rather than chasing down goals. Let them chase the ball while we conserve energy and look at the bigger picture. It's worked well for us so far.

You could argue that on percentages we'd do better taking a risk to get a second and third goal and make the energy saving changes sooner.

One of the reasons why City have been labelled boring in recent season is because the opposition sit so deep and City then have to find a way of breaking them down. Pep is right though we need to get back to controlling the games better and we will.

It’s only called boring by jealous cunts when we are winning .. Long may it continue ..
