West Of Memphis (WM3 Documentary)

Was lucky enough to be sent a prerelease DVD screener of West Of Memphis, the new Peter Jackson documentary about the West Memphis 3. For those who don't know much about them, there are three documentaries which predate this one called Paradise Lost (1, 2, & 3) which are easily findable on YouTube. All I can say is that I can't recommend all four documentaries enough. All are powerful, shocking, compelling, and insane in their own way. As miscarriages of justice go, it was a pretty fucking grave one.

My involvement with the WM3 started back in 2000 when I helped put together and release the first Free West Memphis 3 album to raise money for their defence. Probably something I'm more proud of than anything else looking back.

Anyway for those interested trailer below.

DVD screener came out bud.

Not that I'd encourage illegal downloading but if there's a torrent out there then I can't recommend West Of Memphis (or the Paradise Lost films) enough. :)

You watched it ?

Became aware of this through Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder campaigning, a very frightening story, says a lot for the backwood American justice system. It was also an absolute disgrace the made them admit guilt in order to be freed.

I'm grabbing it now matey yeah.

I'm on a remote connection to home pc from work atm so i'll have to watch it when i get home but i will be doing yeah.
I like a good informative docu.

That's how I originally became aware of it as well. Scary to think that back then I naively thought they would be out within a year or two ...

Watching West Of Memphis and understanding the politics behind the original prosecution and subsequent attempts to brush the whole thing under the carpet was as frightening as it was infuriating. WOM answers all the questions which were left unanswered from the three PL films.

-- Mon Jan 07, 2013 1:01 pm --

Great ... hope it gets nominated for an Oscar. It certainly deserves one.

Pretty sure this is going to be at least nominated mate yeah, if they get a screener release at this time of year it always means they want promotion for the oscars.

Just watched the first Paradise Lost and am really looking forward to the Peter Jackson effort.

I was made aware of it not that long ago through my interest in Southern rock/metal where just about every band campaigned on their behalf.

I thought I knew everything there was to know about the case having followed it for so long and seen all three PL films ... but Jackson's film is amazing in the things which have never before been discussed. All I'll say is look out for the story of the knife the boys are supposed to have used.

You can understand why an Alford plea was important to the state of Arkansas. I retrial would have without question led to a criminal prosecution against certain people from the prosecutors office and the West Memphis PD. The boys are free, but the real crimes have been swept under the rug.

Going to watch this but do I have to watch the three parts of PL
before West of Memphis?
