Wetherspoons Real Ale festival

Just arrived at Jolly Tars and a slight disappointment on the choice of ales available. It's a smaller spoons so was to be expected, but is our glass half empty or half full.

Started off with a bottle of Trivento Malbec Mendoza for the wife which is a master of wine winner 2021 and also best of Argentina scoring 91. Smacks of value at £12 and far far superior to Havens £20 house offering at the Mash n Barrel yesterday that was dreadful.

I've kicked of with a Shipyards IPA to line the stomach for an upcoming pint of Old Growler porter.. Can't see the Goblin on tap which I was looking forward to, but no mither and may give the Salopian Darwins Origin a sniff. Special thanks to Tim for looking after his real ale aficionados. Best Landlord ever!
Little bit disappointed Mr two gun that you have opted for the shipyard. There is plenty of good ales on pump as I have just checked on the app . Time to get in the festival mood and partake in some real ale ÷/

My Dad used to tell me that the Harbord Harbord building used to be a Burtons (50 bob) tailor back in the 1950s.
I only remember it being Woolworths in the 1960s , until they moved into The Arndale Centre in 1971 and became known as Woolco .
Always wondered what it used to be.

What it is now though is pure comedy gold. A brilliant place.

You're not the train driver, by any chance?
Ha ha this reminds me of someone I knew when I lived in Dover. This guy was an absolute pissed up nutter, off his head. I was absolutely gobsmacked when i heard he'd wiped out half of Maidstone train station by crashing a train. Not that he'd done it but the fact he was a train driver! I knew he worked on the railways but thought it was maintenance or something. You wouldn't trust this bloke to drive a pushbike. The only reason he didn't kill anybody was the crash happened in the early hours when no passengers were there.

The lemon in the IPA lines the stomach acting as a sort of medicinal aid for the debauchery to follow.

I've broken another rule in that I had a pint of 6.6% Effess with my barbeque pannina and chips. I did this as effes represents the best value combo with the meal as Effes sells £4.40 a pint. Therefore my panni and chips were costing @£2.20. I would not have slept tonight if I had of combined a real ale at only £2.50: Hoozah

A flaggon of real ale mixed with a splash of olde English folk music: Whats not to like.

But never ever in a Wetherspoon.

With all due respect I think you mean "Leffe". I employ a similar strategy.

Indeed, the biggest sin in Wetherspoons is going for a £1.77 pint of Ruddles as your "includes a drink" choice.
