Does seem to be going that way - a bit like Yates's wine lodges. Tbf though the spoons business model does at least give some life to high streets in towns (even if it is lowlife), and the premises used would generally be boarded up otherwise. I think the local spoons generally reflects the local population, and if I really think about it, nearly everywhere I can remember there being a spoons there were generally worse pubs within the same town.
I think they have reached saturation point. Here in Stafford, they have just sold one out of the two on the same street.
Hopefully a viable independent business will take over the premises, but given that half the commercial properties at that end of town are now empty, I'm not holding my breath.
Ironically, the one they have kept open is adjacent to the River Sow, and seems to have to close on a regular basis when the river bursts its banks and floods the bar and cellar.
