We've lost the intensity of last season

Most of the squad haven't had a preseason, then we have international break after 2 games!
The team will gain intensity when we have a run of more than 4 games.

We had a frustrating start last season, could easily have been a bit clear if not for draws. A bit of directness is missing, get it wide and whip it in to the box.

So you're saying that you don't care about our improved performances because we've matched results of our title winning season? We've looked vulnerable at the back and yet improved statistically? Hmm. Regardless, what do you make of this start to the season?

What on earth is this? Utd's 2010 fixtures?

I've indicated in a previous post that comparing results from last season is flawed logic. It is based on the same variable for every other club. Only makes sense if Utd for example also achieve the same points and goal difference against other those clubs from last season. What if we get the same results in these fixtures as last season, but Utd and Spurs beat us at Old Trafford and White Heart Lane?

Hence I wasnt comparing. I was responding to others who were. I dont feel our performances have been good enough this season so far.
I’m starting to see your logic here; you’re going off your naked eye. Let me try and break this down as easily as possible; we (Manchester City) improved our defensive performance at both Liverpool away and Stoke City away. You (gio’s side step) can claim we have looked shaky at the back however we (Manchester City) reduced Liverpool’s shots on target total and Stoke City’s total shot tally. Therefore we (Manchester City) have improved our defensive performance in these games.

Do you comprehend so far? We (Manchester City) have improved defensively. You (gio's side step) may claim we look shakier however that's all it is; looks. We’ve now returned from an international break and our new signings can settle in. We shall now begin a run of games and hit high form again in October. Garcia will prove to be an absolute gem for us. He can cover for our defence like De Jong however he can then link to our attack - if Dzeko's chip went in we'd be praising Garcia for playing a beautiful ball.

Bleat all you want about not liking statistics, we’ve improved our performances – if we continue in that trend then we’ll have a successful season and build upon last.
whilst I respect the effort you've gone to, you're missing the point spectacularly. It doesn't matter what the stats say. They only tell part of the story. It's obvious to anyone our performances this season haven't been up to scratch. They haven't been dreadful but we are not playing to our potential. You can throw as many numbers into the mix as you want but that's not how to analyse football properly. We look shaky at the back. Against Liverpool and In the 2 home games we were rubbish for large sections of the game. It might be gio's opinion but it's one I share and I bet Mancini shares. I don't care what your stats say about the Liverpool game; anyone who was there knows we were poor, vulnerable and stretched.

No offence mate because at least yours is a football post, and I certainly agree the ingredients are there for us to step up. But you're hiding behind stats which say very little.

Whilst we have left a lot to be desired, I'm very excited that we finally have some pace on the wing with Sinclair. Something we terribly lacked last season.

What is the source of your excitement? based on what? his performances for an average premier league side last season?

Of the three debutants, he impressed me the most the other day. He looked a little unsure when it came to delivering end product but I'm putting that down to nerves as I've seen him produce for Swansea. Some of his runs off the ball were very intelligent, he has to play on the right for us imo.

He looked dangerous at Stoke at times.

I think and hope he'll be a very big asset this season.

-- Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:12 pm --

Maybe Dzeko could benefit from balls in the box (cliche but true)

Which is the most exciting thing; we’ve improved at two grounds we have always had troubles at and yet we’re still not there. Once we start to click in October then we’ll see a much more assured side; a title retaining side. We’ve managed to reduce Liverpool’s shots on target total and Stoke City’s total shot tally without playing at full strength. If luck was on our side then we’d be two points better off, quite possibly four.

Against Arsenal we’re going to have an assured performance and earn a draw or quite possibly a victory. Our league games in October are all bankers going off our current form and what’s yet to come; Fulham, Sunderland, West Brom and Swansea City – twelve points. I’m that confident that we won’t lose against the mentioned teams that if the bookies are going to offer decent odds I’m going to back the following:

Arsenal (H) – Win or draw
Fulham (A) – Win
Sunderland (H) – Win
West Brom (A) – Win
Swansea City (H) – Win

Shouldn't even be in our thinking. 3 points is a must.

Not just that but the likes of Aguero and Balotelli should benefit from the space his runs provide, he draws defenders out of position, like Yaya's chance the other day which he should have put away. It wouldn't have come about but for Sinclair's run inside.
