WFAC 4th round City vs Sheffield United 29/01 KO 13:00 - Match Thread

Hard to take too much from that given the opposition, but some good individual performances at least. Bunny made it look easy, Blakstad looked very sharp reacting for her goal (the second one, I think?) and Chloe Kelly looked a little more like herself.

Yer can't grumble at seven goals, but even the shakiest analysis would show we should have comfortably reached double figures - about 20!. Sheffileld were extremely limited. They never pressed beyond their own half, I counted two shots that went miles wide, gave the ball away even more times than we did. I was a bit disappointed that Hemp didn't start - she'd have waltzed round those full backs and probably had a hatful.

Some very nice touches from Shaw, Fowler made an impact when she came on and had a couple of stinging shots that the goalie saved.

The first half was a goal that averaged out every fifteen minutes interspersed with the dreary, slow, ponderous, mind-numbing sideways and sideways passing, at one point I thought if Kennedy passes that fuckin' ball back to Greenwood I will commit hari-kari!

One rather delightful point was that with CityTV+ on my phone I could immediately watch the goals again!

And the highight? Getting out of the Blue Carpark in about thirty seconds!

I enjoyed that today, my feet were cold though. I thought we played much better than we have of late and even the sideways passing wasn't quite as predominant as usual. I do like Hasegawa, lovely player to watch. Agree with you @dave ewing in that Fowler was impressive, she is getting better each time she plays, she is very direct and certainly doesn't faff about, just gets on with it and shoots. All her shots were on target too.

And of course there was the added bonus of coming out to see the scousers had lost.

Absolutely. Bunny wants to score and yer can see that every time she gets the ball she's weighing up a shot - great turn and shot today for one of her goals - but Fowler is one of only a few who have 'directness' in their game. I think GT wants a possession-based game that at the level the City women can deliver is ponderous and slow!

I loved the way every time she got the ball she was looking for a chance to shoot. Played a gorgeous through ball to Bunny too, would have been a fantastic goal. Had KDB done that we would all have been raving.
I am not entirely sure if Taylor was at the game today, I think it was just a cardboard cut out put there and that is why we were more entertaining to watch.
