What a superbly run football club we are now.

Yet more evidence, should any be needed, of what a professionally run football club we are. This appointment could have been a minefield, with unhappy staff, press recriminations, everything. But Khaldoon, Txiki, Soriano et al have handled the whole thing with magnificent diplomacy and it reflects incredibly well on them all. They've obviously had a totally honest relationship with Pellegrini from the start, and that has reaped it's own reward now.

It is, of course, far from the first piece of evidence that we are run by serious players, guys who can see the critical path of each decision, and who instinctively understand that what comes around goes around, and therefore you should act with integrity. We got pretty much a clear run at all of our summer targets, didn't get in bidding wars and generally kept our council well. We obviously sewed up players and agents well ahead and were just left negotiating.

It's worth mentioning on this score that De Bruyne's agent came out and commented on how honest and transparent City had been right through the process. It's worth mentioning Delph's double U Turn, because somebody at MCFC left the door open after his first mind change, and that paid huge dividends.

There are of course, more obvious signs of our stature, like the CFG, the keeping-quiet of the Chinese deal, the behind-the-scenes FFP fight, the stadium expansion. But the little things like this keep coming to the surface now. The club is being run by serious players, capable movers and shakers, the kind of focussed, clever, subtle people who make the biggest businesses successful.

I've accused this club in the past of being a Ferrari driven by a teenager. Those days are well behind us now. We are the real deal from bottom to top and we represent Abu Dhabi perfectly, with dignity, style and class.

Money shouts, wealth whispers. Everything is in place.

Totally agree. So impressed with our owners not throwing money about on stupid players, not listening and pandering to the press, the business model is superb. Thank god they chose (and we were ripe) city

We've had a fantastic week on the pitch and drop it on everyone on transfer deadline day. The timing was epic actually. I've felt a sudden change in midweek (similarly when we went on that unbeaten run towards the end of last season) like a shift in gear. I already started to feel like this was the start of something and now this happens and I feel we can be unstoppable till may. Everyone should be in no doubt about how we need to end this season and send pellers off in the right way. He impressed me with his subs and handling of Kelechi this week

It's all clicking just at the right time

Hats off to you DD, great summary. Critical path, love it..

For me, it's the slightly smaller details. This is the 2nd biggest announcement the Club has ever made, only the takeover was more seismic. But you know what, the Club allowed Pelle to announce that HE had chosen to not take up the additional year on his contract. His choice. HIM. Now, we all know it probably wasn't his choice, but for the Club to show such good grace and allow Pelle to tell the press is amazing. Brilliant PR and takes all the wind out of the snidy gutter press sails. There's just nowhere they can go with this now.

Makes you proud to be associated with such a class act..

Yes, a very clever touch. Totally stops all the "Poor Manuel" stories.

I thought it was very interesting indeed that the club statement said "discussion that were curtailed in 2012". That's there for a reason, and my guess is that if it wasn't for a certain Mr Aguero, Guardiola would have been our manager that summer. It fits with so many other things too: Mancini's contract with the Russian club, his general demeanour at the time and even after the victory, the rumours of his resignation, the long delay on our summer spending. I was wondering why they included it in the statement but I guess it can only be one thing: this has been on the cards for years and that is why Pellegrini is not a victim, he could even be seen as a beneficiary. City have played the long game.
