Manchester City (and McLaren F1)
And can you see it having any implications or influence on any proposed City bid for Aguero?

For those wondering what the smeg i'm on about, i'm referring to this.

MANCHESTER CITY PARTNERSHIP ATLETICO Manchester City players (premierleague.com)

Atlético and Manchester City intend to finalise a strategic partnership in the spring, at the end of the current Liga and Premier League campaigns, AS reports.

The deal will be made official upon a simultaneous signing to take place in both Madrid and Manchester. By way of the agreement, both sides will seek joint sponsorship deals, share information on youth squad members and exchange players.

The partnership is part of a larger association to be composed of 10 to 12 football clubs throughout the world. Already united to the cause are Manchester City (England), Raja Casablanca (Morocco), Al Ain (United Arab Emirates), Muangthong United (Thailand), Shanghai Shenhua (China), América (Mexico) and Atlético Madrid (Spain).

The next three teams expected to affiliate will come from Brazil, United States and Japan.

This first-of-its-kind alliance will help each member club expand its global appeal, and will be nurtured annually by a friendly pre-season tournament to take place in early August.

Among the affiliates are some of the world’s richest clubs. Al Ain is owned by Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the prince of Abu Dhabi; Muangthong is owned by Siamsport, a company that also owns 90 per cent of Thailand’s TV rights; and, Manchester City, is owned by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.

Strapped for cash, Atlético directors will hope to profit from their alliances and bring in additional capital. Funding is still needed for the ever-pending construction of the Peineta stadium and the Alcorcón athletic facilities.

Very interesting. I remember us striking the deal with Athletic but cannot remember a mention of the simultaneous signing.

Did it even get signed? That article said we "intend" to, but i don't remember reading anything official.

Besides, the arrangement is only to share scouting information. It doesn't change the fact that Aguero has a valuation and if nobody meets it, he wont be sold.

This is from a while ago, i do believe we did sign! Could maybe give us first dibs on Munian ?

If he played for Atletico Madrid, maybe. ;)

It wasn't signed, I don't know why. If we would have signed this, it would have been a big PR moment for us. No stories = not signed.

Is it plausible that it might be in progress now? It said in the article that it would be signed at the end of the current season, since the season has just ended, it may not have been completed for any number of reasons.

Not clutching at straws, just a query.

The part about a pre-season tournament sounds interesting. 10 to 12 teams in a cup knock out sort of thing could be good and we could involve youngsters

I was following this closely at the time. Disappointed to say that in my mind it's a 99% call that it was media speculation with no basis all along. Atletico have been pretty good about talking about the other deals they've made with the partner clubs mentioned in the said article yet they never mentioned us after all. That said, I checked it out a few weeks back and they still haven't got another European partner IIRC - or at least, not a major one.

Still, unlikely anything will happen IMO.

Would our "arrangement" with Espanyol be a replacement for this or in addition to?
Or will that come to nought also?

Must admit it rankles to see these clubs selling top talent to our rivals (de Gea, maybe Aguero to Chelsea).

This is untrue, it was reported on Athletico's website at the time. Bunch of comments from people on there whinging at becoming what they thought was a feeder club (they weren't under this agreement, it's a shared scouting deal)

Did we not opt for Espanyol instead?
I think yes, but Barca just took 7 of their best youth. They're pissed and calling Barca hypocrites. Looks like we won't be getting any youth from Espanyol ;)

There is a bit of doubt whether this has happened. There is nothing on the Espanyol website and the Madrid press would have pounced on it, but nothing there either.
