Despite what Balkanno has said, I think this is proper funky.

You want funky Bob, give Jackie a listen. He was one funky mofo (RIP)

Jackie Mittoo was the most magnificent of musical magpies, gathering melodic inspiration across the musical spectrum from Hollywood musicals to British pop hits, and stylistically he was equally versatile - blues, R&B, funk, rock, soul, he was a master of all. But his true genius was in his brilliant ability to meld and blend these styles and sounds to his own will, as he does here on "Stereo Freeze". This instrumental is a fabulous funky work-out, where the Studio One musicians get down with the sound and groove away across the steaming rhythm. But what's that flute doing floating overhead? There's no flutes in funk! Well there is here, for Mittoo is not one to play by the rules of arrangement, if he wants to add a taste of the countryside sound to a fiery funk piece, all the better. And all the while the band storm away on the riff, while Mittoo almost languorously floats his organ solo above. Phenomenal. It was with instrumentals like these that Mittoo established Studio One as the most innovative and exciting label in Jamaica.
