I hear ya, especially if you’re listening to the album in full. At first, I found the opening three tracks a little tough. Men in Bed took a few listens before I got over its odd (even for Cardiacs) time-signature, and listening to the next two tracks, The May and Gen, I thought ‘FFS this is Guns all over again’ (easily their weakest album IMO). I still don’t care for those two songs too much, but from that point on, the album really takes off and it left a smile on my face all the way.

Yeh, 'Men In Bed' went in one ear and out of the other but 'The May' landed, for me anyway. ‘Gen’ didn’t impress at first then I warmed to it. I left it there coz ‘Woodeneye’ was up next and I knew that was a banger (but even that took a few listens when it came out). I’ll settle down with the LP again; it’s like I wasn’t quite ready for it, dunno why...
