Ah; memories. My old stomping ground. Spent my first 10 years on Claremont Rd, near the junction with Broadfield Rd. From dec 1962 to mid '73. A completely different era. Yes it was a poor area, no point denying it. But there was a sense of neighbourliness (made up word?) that I haven't sense on my occasional visits back there. Society has definitely changed. Rose coloured glasses? I don't know; maybe.
Yeah; there was a nasty atmosphere at times. The NF on one side of the fence, and the Anti Nazi league on the other. But it was still, in my opinion, a more "friendly" time. Not 'rose coloured' at all! I remember these streets as a kid, so much so, I was smiling as an automatic response! It just looked the same all over from Moss Side to Longsight! Seeing the streets/ grass bits being one big rubbish tip is a particular recall!
For me, though, alongside these prevailing memories of poor unison was the threat of 'NF' blatantly in our faces!
All this time and I never knew their background...
An accident waiting to happen? The size of these two stomping around a house that has rotten wood as structural integrity.
