It seems he has a good game and then the game after he put's in a shocking performance, i think moving him about in different positions doesn't help, but apart from a good work rate he isn't impressing me at all.

I'm all for giving players time, but for me he offers very little, he played well against Liverpool on his debut, and since then he's been nothing short of average.

Tonight everyone was good, apart from one or two who were outstanding, but Milner once again on the ball looked lost, really uncomfortable and like he has no confidence.

IMO his best position would be centre midfield, but it's hardly gonna happen, it seems he's wasted on the wing, so where do we accomodate him in this team? does he deserve to start or is his high work rate getting him a place?

i'm not worried, he could come really good, but i'm starting to think did he just look a world beater at villa in a good but not brilliant team? i hope he proves me wrong.

At the moment I think that Villa drew the short straw, with Ireland.

He hasn't got the pace to play out wide, and he won't get a look in at centre mid. He would look a million dollars in any other league than the Prem with his technique, but without pace he looks out of sorts. Can't understand why we had such a hard on for him to be honest.

He only started to fulfill his potential last season when he was moved in to the middle, with Downing and Young on the wings. He has a great engine and is a good all rounder but as has been said, lacks the pace out wide. I thought Barry had a poor game this evening and could see Milner replacing him in the middle.

He is English, which is good for the home grown players quota, and very versatile too as he can play a number of positions.

Mancini obviously rates him, as he has played in pretty much all of our biggest games.

Maybe not set the world alight yet at City, but the way some Blues write him off is pretty shameful. He has only been here 5 months after all.

Definitely better suited to a central role than out wide though.

i agree barry wasn't very good, but this is the point i make, someone has a very bad game, will mancini drop barry and play milner there? i don't think he would,

he would only do it if an injury occured or tiredness, so it looks like Milner is gonna have a hard time.

It seems that Barry is untouchable at the moment, but many more performances like tonight and he'll soon find himself on the bench. He gave the ball away and invited pressure, got a stupid booking early on and offered very little. I'm not in the business of slating anyone who pulls on the shirt, but his performance this evening was pretty dire. Is Milner the answer in the middle? If he can get to anywhere near the form he showed for Villa last season, then I wouldn't be surprised to see him replace GB.

I like Barry, he is one of those players that you don't notice much, but you'd notice if he wasn't there. Does a similar job as Nige but doesn't get the same press.

He will be a solid squad player for many years to come, Barry has another 2-3 seasons after this, and I see Milner stepping into his shoes.

Who cares what we paid for him? Given the wealth of our owners I don't believe it is a material consideration. People should stop getting hung up on how much players cost like Swales is still in charge

I just think it's a case of Milner being a big fish in a small pond at Villa. His goal scoring record is deceiving as most of his goals are from set piece plays, although he's scored some nice drives as you see here:

In the City team, he's a good player in the wrong system. His style seems to suit teams that play more direct, where as City's side plays more of a passing possession game that slows the game down and nullifies his strengths. I think Milner is only in the team because of his England status. If he wasn't English, we probably wouldn't have even had a look.
