What Can We Do With Milner?

Milners getting there, still settling in and getting use to the step up in quality, got faith milner will come good

what the? what on earth are you talking about. stop making excuses for him it's January. Look at Silva, plenty more to adjust to for him I would think.

what you are seeing is what he is. a hard working defensive midfielder with decent skill going forward. nothing elite about him.

He only started to fulfill his potential last season when he was moved in to the middle, with Downing and Young on the wings. He has a great engine and is a good all rounder but as has been said, lacks the pace out wide. I thought Barry had a poor game this evening and could see Milner replacing him in the middle.

Some of his passing today was horrible (not sure why) but you cant fault Barry's workrate. Him and DJ were solid tonight so for me he had a good game.

Milner is driving me mad.

I admire his work rate/effort and some of his tackling has been good but since his debut against L'pool where he played well,I think he has been very average and his passing at time is too sloppy.

However, lets be patient.I think Dzeko as a target will bring out the best in him and we'll see a few more goals from crosses.

Sure to be sold, We are in dire need of goals from midfield scored plenty for Villa, still to break his duck for us. Not champions league standard for next season.

Problem with Milner is that's he needs a consistent run of games in one position.

He's one of a couple of players not suited to our 4-2-3-1 formation. I'd say Yaya's another, although he's improved. Both are 4-4-2 central midfielders.

He gives the ball away so much and runs down so many blind alleys, due to his lack of pace.

For me, he should compete with Barry and De Jong at the back of the midfield. Anywhere else in our formation, particularly wide, he's hopeless.

Baffling...

For whatever reason he has certainly been the biggest disappointment for me,he just doesn't look like the same player from last season at Villa.
He sometimes looks overwhelmed, maybe it's a confidence thing,as though he doesn't believe he is good enough to play in this team.
Certainly a sustained run in his best position would help, the problem being,we have better players in the team who will, quite correctly, not allow this.

As much as i want him to come good,as i had him down as the key summer signing,i fear he could be one who makes way for a superior talent.

And,for the record,Barry played superbly last night, especially given the early, undeserved, yellow card.

He's much slower than I thought he was! But games like last night he wouldn't play if we had Bally or Silva fit

Hes Barrys replacement. But Barry is still doing a job. Really he was a complete luxury signing for us a quick fix and really I honestly believe we only signed him becuase of the financial regs we needed to get alot of business done in a short period of time.

Hes not a bad player, just being played out of position. One for the future IMO.
