What City player was most over rated by our own fans

Who rated Brannan? He is the worst player I have ever seen play for us

Mcmanaman was NOT overrated. Everyone thought he was utter shite, which of course, he was.

I will nominate one Paul Dickov. Useless player, apart from that goal obviously.

Goater. Lovely bloke, scored some really important goals, but got most of his goals in a team creating 20 chances a game for him.

Mike Sheron
Richard Edghill - (before it became too obvious)
Richard Dunne

and just to be controversial

Kompany
I was actually going to say Kompany. Very good at what he does, and good in front of the camera but, for me, vastly overrated by Blues.

Terry Phelan .... £5m buy from Wimbledon, showed his talent by turning his back to block a shot with his arse in the 5-0 hammered at The Swamp

George Weah ..... we all thought he'd do what he did at Milan .... how wrong we were.

When it comes to the question of which player with the least ability is held in the highest regard by our own fans, there is only one answer...

Unpopular I know, but City 'legend' Paul Dickov was amongst the worst footballers I have ever seen..

Not only was he appalling in 3 divisions, he was annoying to the core.

The 'wasp' buzzed along, achieving nothing, chasing down back passes for no reward, not once. Scoring less goals in the same period as Kevin Horlock.

We paid near £1 million pound in 1996 for a striker, that striker with the exception of one goal was awful week in week out. His productivity lead us to division 2, his goals, remember this man was a one million pound striker in effectively a pub league took us to the dizzy heights of 3rd. 5 points behind the mighty Walsall who's whole squad will have cost less than Dickov.

Take that goal away, thus his status as a legend and he wouldn't even be remembered, or would be remembered as one of our worst players..

He is the only truly shit player that we have had that is so revered, and not judged on his ability at all.

People forget, they tag him a leg end, he missed chance after chance in that game, hey the tool even missed his penalty. Yes people forget/ignore that too.

Would he be a legend if that missed penalty then cost us promotion? The true hero or legend from that day, and I dislike the bloke, Nicky Weaver..

So as the question posed was, the most over rated player, my answer a £1 million striker scoring 35 goals in over 170 games for a team that gained promotion twice and played in the old 3rd division. Any other player would have been lambasted and ridicules for years..Not this 'legend' though!

To put Dickov's record in context, 35/170, baring in mind that he was an incredibly expensive player in division 2&3, I'll use the aforementioned Balotelli, a guy who's fee is probably comparable put into context of what £1 million meant to us in 1996 and what £20 million means to us now, Mario scored 20 in 50.

Balotelli's City's career divided opinion, but there's no doubting his ability, Dickov however, nobody can honestly rate his ability and can only like him based on 1 goal!

I massively over rated all of these players. At one point I believed they were going to carry us through for years to come as they all appeared from the academy at pretty much the same time

Stephen Jordan
Nedum Onuoha (Oh how I wish he'd played against CR7 every week)
Ishmael Miller
Lee Croft
Willo Flood
BWP
Joey Barton
Michael Johnson
Stephen Ireland

Remember at the time we were a club that was yo-yo-ing with relegation and getting mid-table was a successful season. It wasn't until Frank Sinatra came in when we started to evolve. Without Frank, those players would have been with us still trying to keep us up and be rated well.

If you think that about Paul Dickov then you've obviously been watching football for about 5 minutes. Useless?!?! You are clueless that's for sure.

I agree, Dickov may not have been graced with super talent, but he made up for and more was in commitment, drive, passion and never giving up. I'd rather have 11 players of that calibre than a team of prima donna's that turn up when they want to.

I've seen the names of Kinkladze, Lake, Barnes, Kompany, Dunne, Balotelli, Zaba and I'm fucking staggered at how many of our fans are either clueless or utter knobs. I really worry about the sort of supporters we seem to be attracting. It's very, very depressing.

Ah yes, the old if you think Dickov is 'useless' you are a glory fan or you are clueless....

I have watched Dickov many many times, home, away and on the TV.

I have played football to a good standard, did so for 15 years, and I am happy to state thatbDickov was indeed 'useless'.

Not only do his career statistics prove this, his illustrious journey man career leave little left to be argued.

He was piss poor, granted he tried hard, every footballer puts in all they can, they just do it in different ways!

My everlasting memory of Dickov will be him aimlessly charging down the keeper, with the keeper having already launched the ball 70 yards up field. Oh and George Boateng throwing his boot on the roof!

Anyone who thinks Dickov was anything other than 1 goal & charging around is clearly hard of learning or sight or reality.

He was a £1,000.000 waste of time. His stats, his career his footballing achievements are testimony to this!

Gio Kinkladze - no contest
He was joy to watch Kinkladze. We doubled are money on this player. And but for him we might not be where we are now. One of the only good things Francis Lee did as Chairmen buy him.

I guess you don't understand football. A £1,000.000 player in 1996 playing in the old third division should have been scoring 35 goals a season not every 170 games.

If he'd done his fucking job, rather than chasing down keepers we'd have won that pub league...

Glad to see you only know of he highlights, I'm guessing you weren't in places like Bournemouth, Colchester watching this clown run around, waste engery and time then piss away 6 good chances a match.

I notice you highlight the play off final, care to explain away the chances he missed in the game? His awful penalty that could have cost us?

Face it, he was toss, we'd all agree if he hadn't scored that goal!!

-- Tue Aug 06, 2013 8:58 pm --
