What does it take to be considered a real City fan?

Quite simple really - Good craic - the ability to laugh at yourself and your team.

The new Demichalis song I heard in the pub pre game and after he scored is a prime example:

2nd verse to Pellegrini song...

Sheikh Mansour,
Spain again,
In a 2nd hand Lexus,
Spent some cash,
Brought us back...
Michael DeMechalis.

I was born in the same hospital and raised in the same part of England as Joe Hart though, no one seems to mind him wearing the club crest.............

If I'd have known about the radius and rules of football support I'd have stopped my 9 year old self from travelling, with my dad, the 50 miles to get to Maine road. My years of support, season tickets, pies, shirts, days off work, missed events and the tens upon tens of thousands of miles travelled mean absolutely nothing because my mother dropped me 50 miles in the wrong direction?

Yes may be true
(I think the lower prices would mean more working class mancs could return)

but just think how much better football would be if all teams drew on local support and the likes of Bury and Boston and Leeds were also getting them sort of crowds

we may have smaller grounds but football right through the pyramid would be healthier even some Jock and Irish clubs would have some fans through their gates

all over football plastics have been slagged off but on here City plastics are somehow different not sure how that works

support your local club I do
Very small minded.

not really just an honest opinion from a mancunian who can remember the days Of Maine Road being full of working class mancunians and the OP asked for opinions this just happens to be mine

On the whole that class does not exist anymore, as affluence has risen more people have moved to the suburbs or further afield

Good question this and something I do dwell on. For me there is a difference between a 'fan' and a 'supporter'. I have been a City fan for 48 years. I was born in Cadishead and lived in Eccles and have always been passionate about City. From the age of 10 to about 18 I went to hundreds of City games and was a true supporter. Now due to personal circumstances I rarely get to go to games, so I am reduced to being a fan again. For me the supporters are the ones who go and cheer the team, all us fans are grateful to you for that. Having said that I would say that my passion and love for City are as strong as anyones, and I would hope that the true 'supporters' out there would recognise and accept that.

And while I'm at it, that goal by Rooney yesterday wasn't a wondergoal, it was a speculative punt that went in. Not saying it wasn't a decent goal, just not great. Same as his other wondergoal, the infamous overhead kick, same again, just hit in the direction of the goal and it went in. Yayas third yesterday however was brilliant, absolute pinpoint accuracy which went exactly where he intended it to go. Different class.

I think that regardless of any other "qualification " on here the art of being a true fan of any club -or sport for that matter - surely has to be that club / sport to the exclusion of all else ? I have no real interest in the fortunes of any other club / sport at all ever. In all my waking and most of my sleeping hours if its not sex that occupies my mind its City -end of

over 700 games , dad, brother son and grandson match going blues , I re scheduled my wedding for a morning slot , because we were playing Coventry City at home , we won , (but the marriage wasnt as succesful !) and of course I despise everything red , and have never bought anything from sharp , aig , audi , chevrolet , DHL , if they sponsor the rags , they dont get my money , After 40 years of hurt i am now a fully paid up gloryhunter

In my opinion it's not just the amount of games u attend as I'm not a city season card holder but do averag about 15 games a season, its for club to be in ur heart and to follow the club through thick and thin and to bring ur kids up as a blue as there the future generation.

That's maybe just down to perception:Whilst I own my own House and Business but I still consider myself working class even if my grandparents wouldn't have considered me working class
