What does our squad need for the coming season?

We only need to replace what leaves now. I don’t believe this notion that we have to add different types of players to the squad

Thoughts on Zaha on a free from Palace? would probably demand high wages but from what i have seen of him, he works hard and plays for the team - could be a good signing, especially if Mahrez goes and we need some pace on the wings..

Only if they’re good enough. However well someone does at a Championship club is no indication that they can be a regular starter for the Treble winners chasing four or even five trophies, particularly without any upgrade on last season, if anything a downgrade with losing Gundo.

Our first XI is amazing, best in the world, but there’s a huge drop in quality and numbers outside that and it’s a long, long season. I wouldn’t want us to go to Anfield, Emirates or St James’s Park for example with McAtee, Palmer or Doyle starting.

We simply must sign the best available that we can get, don’t stand still, and no room for sentiment or worrying what dickheads in the rag/cockney media say about spending. Fuck everyone, fuck our ‘hateful 8’ rivals (that letter from Arse remember) and go for another treble!

Keep Bernie (unless he insist on leaving then replace with Sané) and sign Kimmich (or Caceido) and Gvardiol, job done.

I agree - I wouldn't expect someone who has done well in the Championship to walk into our First Team, but he can play a bit-part in the first team, much like Laporte has done this season. Pep will know which games to bring them on, and develop them. But writing somebody off just because they were in the Championship the season before can see you miss out on some big talents. You only have to look at Chelsea who did play Mount after a season with Derby and he won their Player of the Year two years on the bounce, but they also didn't use Fikayo Tomori - and lost him to AC Milan, where he has been excellent.

I'm not saying you're wrong @Semper aggressus - in fact, you're probably right in a lot of what you said. I wouldn't want Callum Doyle starting away at Anfield either. But having him in and around the First Team, and playing (even starting) against the poorer teams like Luton, Burnley, Sheff Utd, Bournemouth, Man Utd etc. where he could hold his own and gives him the introduction to the Premier League that he needs, means we could save £40m+ on replacing Laporte if he left.

The drop off from Rodri at DM is drastic.
That's purely because Rodri is the best in his position in the world by a distance. Phillips would walk into most teams in this league.

There's only really Casemiro who'd have a similar impact on a team, and even then he's still far away from Rodri. Players of Casemiro's ability won't come to City to sit on the bench behind Rodri.
