Up in Whitefield we could pick up Welsh TV and had the odd match with Welsh commentary.
Also remember hours of coverage of the Eisteddfod wondering what the heck it was!

I watched that cup loss at Cardiff just before Lee took over on BBC Wales with the picture fading in & out.

Also used to watch a poor quality Scorigo (sp) on probably S4C on Spanish football at the time Zubizarreta was Barca keeper.

These days I watch us and almost no other football at all apart from bits around the world in bookie sites I've bet on.

The Ramsbottom relay transmitter at Grant's Tower would pick up the signal from Winter Hill and by line of sight also pick up the signals from the Welsh transmitters. Our Rediffusion shop in Rammy town centre had a huge aerial on top of its roof to pick up the signal from the relay and then pipe it via cables to houses around the town and beyond. I do remember being able to pick up Yorkshire TV if the weather was favourable (not sure how that worked).

In the good old days I had a mate - Jenko - who lived on Cheapside in Middleton. By a weird quirk of topography his elevated position meant he could pick up YTV. In the days of only 4 channels this was like amazing ! So sometimes YTV would be showing some football highlights midweek exclusive to their region. On the odd occasion this even included a City game - that would be enough of a reason to sack the pub off early and kick Jenko's Mrs into the kitchen whilst we sat on the sofa watching a grainy image of Huddersfield Town or Bradford City or such like. Televised footie was that rare then !!

Weird you bring that up as my mum lives in Langley, just off Windermere Road at the top of the hill and about 6 months ago I tuned in her new TV via a digital Ariel and it automatically picked the TV region as Yorkshire.

I had to manually pick the region as North West
