What happens if we don't' get top four?

The best players want to be in the CL so we can forget Pogba and dream names like Messi. The loss of CL qualification will also impact on the CFG business plans and this may restrict our transfer outgoings. Complacency has brought this on yet I can't see a dead man walking manager with his minor trophy being the personality to turn this all around. The players need a huge collective boot up the backside to get the club up and running to salvage a top four placing, but many of them know they will be out when the new manager arrives and it's plausible to ask if some of them just don't care anymore. A final and huge piece of criticism must go towards Txiki who, having worked behind Mancini's back to appoint Manny, and has now done the same to appoint Pep. This is sure to unsettle any club, yet this 'Executive' has now done it twice. I wonder who he will be courting in another year's time.

It won't make a blind bit of difference.

Players will know where we are aiming to be and they will look at our ambition and know we will be challenging for major honours.

Just like when we signed Barry. He could have easily gone to Liverpool who were in the CL but he seen the bigger picture.

I can't see the likes of Pogba and Gundogan wanting to play for Pep, being offered a lucrative 5 year deal and turning it down because of one season on no CL football.

It might even be a blessing in disguise at it might gives the likes of Angelino, Manu Garcia, Kelechi andDenayer a more prominent role in the first team squad.

But would they turn down Barca? Barca are after Gundogan as well. IMO No chance Gundogan comes here over Barca if we end up in EL.

Pep prob will come due to agreements in place BUT if City don't get in the CL IT WILL SERIOUSLY affect the quality of the players we can get in, so we won the League Cup ! BIG DEAL, ANY DAY I would settle for 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the league than win that cup and be playing Thursday Night Europa footie, this is a VERY worrying time , who knows maybe Pep has a clause in his contract regarding a non CL place finish ???, and Now level pegging with "them" with Liverpool and West ham playing well.....

At the end of the day, money and ambition is what appeals to players and both us and Barca can offer that.

If he was only interested in winning then he would go to Barca regardless of whether we are in the CL or not because they, along with Bayern, guarantee success.

Players know how competitive football is. They would be extremely short sighted to not sign for a side because of one season out the CL. Especially when they are appointing the most coverted coach in world football.

The only scintilla of comfort would be it would take some pressure off Pep and his job would be seen as one of rebuilding rather than winning the Champs League straight away.
The obvious downside would be the difficulty in rebuilding and qualifying for top 4 again without the ability to attract some of our targets.

Stop flapping. This time last year I remember all the rags getting giddy at the prospect of overtaking us. How far back did they finish?

Not worried in the slightest. Bad result but we haven't won there since 2003 and I didn't expect any different. We're going to lose at Stamford Bridge too but the rest are all very win able, Spurs have a horrendous run in, Arsenal are collapsing and I'm hoping Leicester go on a bad run too as they haven't so far. Our form is less than ideal but I still think we can win it and there is a lot of over reaction in this thread!

It's not an over reaction, some posts are silly yes, but generally it's been on the money.

That the league is so poor, and fuck me is it, has saved some bacon if you look at it that way.

I can't believe some of the stats I read, some are so bad I scratch my head wondering quite how we are in the top 4.

3 successful league defeats
Our home record shot
8 league defeats
3 points from 33 against current top 8
The amount of hammerings we have taken
Our record against top 4
Our away record is bolloxed
The amount we have conceded

All are records since the takeover. It's incredible.

The core has finished and our recruitment and foresight to replace has been quite shocking. We have spent fucking loads on total mediocrity

should be able to to just about hold it with wins against the bottom, but I think we could go the full season without beating a single 'big' team in a 'big' game in the league then that is appalling. No words for how truly appalling that is.

Everyone bar Spurs and Leicester are in the same boat, saying the same thing. Our record against the current top teams has been very, very disappointing. But we are where we are by beating the weaker teams.

Bar Chelsea, Arsenal and utd (2 at home), Southampton and Stoke (1 at home), fortunately, it's the weaker teams who we have the remainding 6 matches against (with West Brom being highest in 13th).

If we carry on how we are we won't get it. It's depressing watching us in the league, same old boring shit. We end up hitting long balls for Kun and hoping for the best.

One possible bonus of failing to get in the top four is that City might not be invited to the next meeting about the proposed evil new super league.

I think we're in big. big trouble and will struggle to finish 4th.

I admire peoples nonchalant attitude and confidence that we will but I think this flies in the face of our form and performances and is sheer hope than anything else.

Why is anyone shocked? We have been turned into the Pep project by two of the most overated and hated *wats in world football. So blinkered were they to any chance that Mancini could be an option, we have wasted 3 seasons and £150 million on bullshit. So poor has been the choices made, that now when the Pep has confirmed he is coming we face potentially the same position as when Mancini joined, no CL.
