What is 'time'?

Apparently, if you go fast enough through space, time slows down. So say you traveled at the speed of light to the end of the solar system, and back again. You will return to earth younger than you should be.

Perhaps that's more along the lines of ACTUAL time travel, you know, rather than the Hollywood version of it.

I answered it. It doesn't exist in this universe, though it is already predetermined. It does, however, exist in another universe in the multiverse.

We don't know that the multiverse exists, nor can we possibly know that if one does its basis is quantum probability as per MWI.

I thought it fairly obvious, considering the subject matter is theory rather than law, that my post was a matter of opinion, especially given that I've discussed some of the opposing theories earlier on in this very thread and explicitly pointed out that these were theories.

Your answer didn't sound like an opinion. It sounded like a statement of fact. It wasn't and it should be made clear it isn't. Most people here are lay people who rely on the better informed to impart information faithfully.

If you read the thread through you will see that the discussion I refer to explicitly discusses the fact that these are theories and does through almost throughout the thread. The fact that you didn't bother to read the thread and consider the post within the context of the discussion as a whole rather than as a standalone statement is of little concern to me.

I really don't think you're appreciating that the people you're talking to are lay people and unless the specific distinctions are drawn out very clearly, it's very confusing between what is and isn't well established scientifically.

You may well be satisfied that by saying multiverse is a theory that you've qualified subsequent statements, but unless lay people KNOW that the statements you're making are contingent on multiverse theory, that qualification is useless. They'd have to understand MWI in order to understand that your statement still fell within the boundaries of that theory.

Serious question

If on the news a man claims to have travelled back in time and had proof, would the excellent minds on here believe him or would you be the very thing you said you wouldn't be and that's have an ego about it and investigate thoroughly

Scientist and academics have some of the most arrogant egos on this planet
A paradox in itself
If they had rock solid proof, yes, I absolutely believe so.

Off topic, but it does contain the words space and time. I'm a decorator and I opened up the instructions to some Korean wallpaper a couple of days ago. Read bullet point 6 and 8. I wanted to share it cos I thought it was funny.
