What made you support Manchester City?

Born and brought up in Preston but lived in Manchester for 25+ years. Used to go to Maine Road and OT occasionally as a tourist in 80s and 90s but have always been a PNE fan. Took my 5 yr old to Maine Road against Preston in 2002 when City won 3-2. I was pissed off but my son was happy and he chose to support City from that point on. He wanted to go more regularly so I got us both a ST after the move to Eastlands. Still a PNE fan first and foremost but got more and more into City over the years. I will only have a problem if North End get into the prem but that doesn't look likely in the near future; they went down a year before I was born and are the team that have been outside the top flight the longest (of all the teams that have ever been in it). The only time I've not supported City was the FA cup game against Preston in 2007. I go now with both my sons who are mad City fans.

Some nice stories here guys....

Myself, Watched/Played football right from being very young, always playing the game.

My "First" team I stumbled upon - My mother would buy us clothes from Charity Shops, came across a City top and I wanted it (to be honest I think it reminded me of Lazio and I watched alot of Serie A on Tv as a kid)

Anyway after realising it was City, I started following the team, never went to any matches though.

I moved to my Dads when I was around 9/10 and he was a big Bolton fan at the time, started taking me to watch Bolton at Burnden Park.
For a few seasons I watched Bolton, when I was around 12 I moved back to my Mum's in Bury.

I didn't want to support the same club as my Dad for private reasons so I decided to give City a whirl... Well I attempted to.

Found out the Fixture list, hopped on the Metrolink at 13 and headed into Piccadilly.
Didn't have a clue how to get to Maine Road, eventually I found out the bus route and went there.

First matches at the ground were in the 1997/1998 season, although I'm sure I saw a Niall Quinn goal for City when I was watching footy at Burnden Park.

Anyway I mostly followed City online/radio/newspapers to be honest, untill I started working and so on in my late teens and thus started going more frequently.

These days I'm a season ticket holder and try to get to a few away games per season. My partner Megan is a blue and also a SC holder aswell.

I started a Supporters Club in the North Bury area recently.

And that's why I support City....

Fate ;)

Well I'm only a younger lad, and one that only got into football the last few years due to its 'inferiority' here. When I decided to choose an EPL team I wanted one as similar as my Australian Football team, the Western Bulldogs, who haven't won anything since 1954 and are real underdogs of the league...Couldn't go past City on these accounts and the fact I even knew to hate United haha. This would have been around the end of 07/08 or start of 08/09 so I would be happily called a bandwagoner due to the money starting to roll in, but I know that I didn't pick them because I thought they'd be the best. It was the atmosphere I could pick up on tele, unlike watching a match at OT. It was you guys, the loyal fans, who've been through so much, and the fact that City are/were seen as the smaller of the two Manchester clubs. True underdogs and something I love.
Now they're an amazing team to watch and I can't wait to get over and get out to the Etihad. I've Fallen in love with football and this team

To be honest, it started with Stephen Ireland. And as I watched more of the city games, I just grew to be more attached to them. Unfortunately, this was the 2008/2009 season, so all my friends think I support city because of the sheikh's takeover. Can't be bothered to defend myself.
