What newspaper do you read?

My Grandad used to get the Daily Mail but all the outright fake stories about the EU/ECHR used to piss me off so stopped reading it about 10 years ago (even though Martin Samuel is an ok writer).

More recently, I used to read the Guardian before I realised that was actually more biased than the Daily Mail since Viner became editor in the sense that it didn't report news that didn't agree with its politics, besides a tokenistic comment-piece by Simon Jenkins every now and again. Also I thought the way they reported the Ched Evans case was scandalous (even after his acquittal), and their failure to cover false reports of rape (e.g. that woman who got 10 years), botched CPS prosecutions plus anything negative to do with migration made me realise they were probably only reporting what they agreed with rather than the news.

Of all the mainstream papers I look at The Guardian more than often, although it's largely middle-class left-wing angst. It does however present an alternative to the relentless right-wing nonsense pumped out by Murdoch & the Telegraph. The best quality of writing on serious matters (politics, finance, economics, world affairs) is undoubtedly in the Financial Times. I used to subscribe to The Economist which is often very interesting but its relentless 'free-market is best' agenda used to annoy me. I discovered I can get it for nothing through my library subscription so occasionally download it. I also subscribe to Private Eye, which tells me about the things I'm unlikely to read in the mainstream media.
