what will city do when the arabs call in the "debt"?

ADUG aren't stupid.

99.9% of successful business's would not touch a football club any more as a money making scheme its just too risky (ask Mike Ashley)
I don't think they dream of making a profit or even to break even after 10 years.
These people could buy anything they wanted but more than anything they crave success weather in business or pleasure and IMO they want to dominate the club scene in the biggest game in the world regardless of the cost just to prove that they can.

Hope I'm right anyway.

I haven't read the replies to the original post but the answer is pretty straightforward to me.

Until the next set of accounts are published at Companies House we won't know if the funds provided to City have been loaned or not and what terms may or may not apply to them.

Going forward, it looks like UEFA will be seeking clubs to have a maximum level of debts per club. This would have serious reprecussions for the rags, scousers and the arse as they owe significant funds (100s of millions) to banks.

Where City and Chelsea for example are different, is that they are funded by their owners and if any loans exist they could be exchanged to shares and thereby reduce or extinguish any outstanding debt and remain outside of any UEFA initiative. Such an initiative would have devastating effects for the rags, scousers and the arse. Having third party debt (banks etc) may also prove difficult in the current times as banks are much more risk averse when lending funds also, should those clubs fail to perform for a season or two this could have a devasting affect on the clubs concerned's ability to pay interest and/ or capital. If I remember rightly, the rags haven't been able to service their loan interest so far.

I could go on but you get the drift!

Very true. Someone on here described business in the UAE as being a "big dick waving competition" at the moment.
Biggest skyscraper and all that...

I don't believe this was a serious post, which was stated in a factual tense rather than in a rhetorical manner. It's actually a rather pathetic attempt to initiate outrage and anger within the board. However, as you've asked I shall explain my dear demented reptillian.

Our owners are extremely wealthy, so weathly in fact that to simple comprehend the scale of their fortune would require an Intel QuadCore processor tripping on LSD with 64Gigabytes of DDR3 RAM just to think about how many zeros are on the end of their mini statement. Still keeping up with the plan Ragster? Okay, so I will continue; in very simple terms for your simple brain cell, they're loaded - and I'm not talking Primal Scream here either (there were a band from Manchester in the 90s mate, probably never heard of them in London have you). Therefore, my old china plate ADUG did not buy City to make money, that was never the plan. They are business people but more than that they can afford to be philanthropists. Now should ADUG decide to leave, what are the possible scenarios? Well they find a buyer of sufficient resources to purchase the club whilst recouping their investment. Which results in City being again owned by seriously wealthy people. Or, they cannot find a group or individual sufficient wealth to buy the club in which instance they a) keep the club, in which instance winner, b) they give the club away , in which instance the new owners have a huge club, amazing players for free which leaves them their resources to again invest in the club.

Put simpy mate, fuck you.

I can see where you're coming from , but i doubt if these particular owners will , in effect' , ask for their money back ..... i just can't see it happening even if they quit the club.

We are talkin' about people far richer than Abramovich here , who make money by the second , and i get the feeling that both they and City have gone into this with their eyes wide open , and there appears to be so much more more that the arabs want to do than merely buy the local football club , they appear to have a huge overally 'project' in the pipeline , and seem intent on carrying things through , no matter what the cost.

You might turn out to be right , who knows what will happen .... but my guess is City will be okay providin' they can bring a 'smile' to the Sheikhs face by provin' over time to be a successful club ...... that's probably all the 'reward' he'll ask for , at least i hope it is!

Best reply so far.

The City owners have gone into this knowing what it takes and where they want to go. We don;t know their agenda but i would imagine it is to get to the top , then sustain it and ALL while promoting Abu Dhabi and UAE in general. If we do start to make a profit like the rags do now, there is no debt, no loans, no finance, its 100% profit that they will bank. Thats the biggest difference between Rags and city, if we make profit, its ours. It united make a profit, it only pays off the interest on the loans (not even started paying the loans off yet).

Put it this way, we are in 1 million times a better place than United, while they are league champions, their future is uncertain, and noone knows how the glaziers will handle it (fire sale maybe ?) Ours future is bright, and the only way we can go is up!

If ADUG call in their debts, then so be it. We'll deal with it at the time and the majority of us will remain blues in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th division or lower.

No point worrying about something that will probably not happen.

They can either shut us down or keep us going seeing as the loan would be payable by themselves to themselves.

Why they'd want to shut us down when they made enough money from Barclays in one day to keep us in Kakas for 15 years on top of the 1 trillion they've got in the bank I've no idea. If the world financial situation ever gets that bad, all the other clubs in the world would be amateur status by then so we'd have no one to play against anyway, unless we started our own league of 20 City teams full of world class players, just playing each other, which they could afford to do with the money they make every few days.

Nah, I think I'll not bother worrying if it's all the same to you..

For the satisfaction of our visiting red, I suggest you go on Google Maps and have a look at the availability of land around Eastlands Stadium. The money to be made out of City is not so much the football, thats the loss leader that helps to put Abu Dhabi on the international map. Is there any football fan in Europe who hasn't heard of their Emirate, now?

The swathes of brownfield land around City (that was still built on when Google took the photos) is their money pot, when they buy it up and do all sorts of fun things with it. Then when City are the dominant force in European football (laugh if you like, go on), the spring board for the City brand becomes the Middle Eastern equivalent of the ubiquitous Virgin brand.

City owed Thaksin £45m and just before the sale to ADUG, he converted this "loan" into shares. I assume this was either for tax reasons or because our financial situation meant he couldn't get further finance unless he did.

As URG says, our current owners could do the same whereas the rags or Liverpool are in hock to the banks. Abramovic has already converted half of his loans to shares. In United's case, there was an option for those banks to take the shares in the event of a default but that would mean they were already in serious trouble. The auditors of Liverpool's holding company have tonight expressed grave doubts over the ability of that company to carry on trading unless they are able to refinance.

I would imagine that if ADUG can make us into a leading world club then the subsequent increase in the value of the club would go at least some way to giving them all or part of their money back.
