When I was in London, I used to work with a Nigerian girl who’d come to Britain as a teenager with her family.

The team were out for lunch one afternoon and there were a group of adults and kids on the next table. Two of the kids were playing up and running around etc. One told his mum where to go and Bisi (her name) sat there open mouthed saying “I can’t believe children are disrespecting an elder like that.”

I know a number of people from immigrant stock who had far stricter upbringings than many Brits.
