I was a massive fan years ago, went to see them all over but after Wish they seemed to become a parody of themselves, and anyways had already become what they had set out to destroy (massive arena filling mainstream act).
If fact since Never Enough wish musically was brilliant I don't think i've heard anything but I believe the newer albums didn't get very good reviews anyway.
I think Robert in particular did too much Michael Jacksonesque "ee-hee oww ow oww oww oww"'s on the more whimsy tracks and for me it was just naff. "giggle, biscuit, jump, sing and shout" from Doing the Unstuck I just shook my head at. Poor.
That said Hot Hot Hot was ace! Nothing like the intelligent, emotional music they'd developed so well.
The Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me period was their best for me anyway.

Boys don't cry, Let's go to bed, The Walk and the Upstairs room.... Saw them at the Apollo in the early 80's. Possibly the worst gig i've ever seen. Robert Smith just stood there like a lonely clown, crowd totally uninspired. I stopped listening to them after that.
