was told by someone that the lines are scheduled to open in 2014?

Surely this can't be right? Sorry if this has been done before

I understood it to be March / April 2012 but I could be wrong.
Thanks. I've googled it, and it is indeed scheduled to become operational in 2014. Crazy. Are they cutting costs by meplying one man with a spade or something

Just hope City don't choose the same contractors for the new ground / redevelopment<br /><br />-- Mon Apr 12, 2010 1:16 pm --<br /><br />

That sounds reasonable, but look at this http://news.careerstructure.com/art...tension-to-create-new-civil-engineering-jobs/ Perhaps that's the whole line and it's being built in stages?

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.metrolink.co.uk/futuremetrolink/east-manchester-line.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.metrolink.co.uk/futuremetrol ... r-line.asp</a>

Spring 2012 to Droylsden, 2013/4 to Ashton.

thats the western loop... Oldham, Werneth, Hollinwood, Failsworth, Dean Lane, Miles Platting (interchange) and Victoria.

Thanks for replies and links. Looks like Spring 2012 for the line to City then. Still a long long time for the layman like me to digest

There's a lot of work involved between Piccadilly station and Holt Town, especially with regard to re-routing existing utility pipes and cables and building tunnels - where the line runs under the forecourt of the new apartment blocks for instance - you may have seen the excavations on Pollard St.

Well as it was originally supposed to be open for the Commonwealth Games in 2002 then I reckon it is that same guy with his shovel. He's probably due for retirement or at least a testimonial !

OK

Do yu know what all those heavy rocks are doing on wooden crates. they've been on the side of Pollard st (think it's Pollard St the road with the funny lamp posts). I walk down that road on the way back from the ground and wonder what they are for

Not seen those, one of our structural engineers might know.
