When Does De Jong Play?

I have to agree with some of the above posts. It was a great tactical decision by Hughes. Blackburn don't know that midfield even exists, so we simply didn't need someone like De Jong in there as none of there attacks come from midfield interplay. All we needed was a back 4 that was good in the air (hence why Micah got the nod over Zab) and a player to collect the 2nd balls (Barry). Add to this the fact that De Jong is small, and no use in defending their set-plays and you have to say, Hughes got it spot on.

He'll play when we're playing teams that get the ball down on the deck.

I mentioned on another thread yesterday, If De Jong had played yesterday, he would have come off injured with a sore neck after 60 minutes

mark hughes knows exactly what he is doing his team selection yesterday was perfect as was his substitution

every player in our squad will have a vital part to play this season and i for one am very optimistic, de jong will play a huge part this season as he is obviously one of the best def mids in the world.

you dont get the nickname terrier from the ajax academy for nothing

MC MCF MCFC OK

With due respect to you all, my point is that Blackburn, as a long-ball team, are not alone by any means. Apart from 6 or so "more cultured" opponents, the rest, that's more than a dozen teams & nearly 30 league fixtures, will be bypassing the midfield to a significant extent. The extra defensive midfielder option offered by de Jong/Kompany/Zabaleta becomes problematic in these circumstances.

De Jong's a player for the big games where midfield is packed and protecting the back four from runners is necessary.

Interesting tactical switch yesterday from MH, not exactly as "clueless" as some would have us think!
Superb post, methinks some on here are playing that football manager bollox too much to see things like that, the game isn't all about straight lines.

I would play De Jong against teams with a key midfielder, Liverpool-Gerrard, Chelsea-Lampard, as he is useful for kicking players out of games.

top 4 teams at home ,top 10 away from home,spurs,villa,everton,fulham+top4.other than that a sub cup games. His time will come when were playing tough away euro fixtures.must admit i prefer vk.not goona say anything negative about de jong brilliant player brought in to replace hamman and fernandes.

Spot on.

We have a squad now that with 1 or 2 additions in certain areas (CB and CAM) has cover and stength in depth so certain players will be dropped to suit the opposition.

I'm expecting Wolves to pack the midfield on Saturday so NdJ will probably play allowing Barry and Ireland to support the front men more.

OK, who does he come in for?
