I was just wondering what will it take to stop the panicking? What will it take to stop the lables of everything about City being 110% incompetent? What will it take to stop people thinking that everything is going to go horribly wrong, we won't sign anyone etc.

It seems to me that rather like a gaggle of geese there is a real propensity on this board for people to whip themselves up into real frenzies, to assume all is going wrong and to feed off each other to create a cycle of negativity and a cycle of worse and worse scenarios?

I am genuinely interested in why this is? Is it attention seeking and some people having a laugh and coming up with more and more preposterous ideas to make things worse? Is it people genuinely believe that no one will ever sign for us and we have the worst manager ever as well as completely incompetent owners and directors? Is it all for a laugh?

I say this because in the last 18 months there have now been 3 or 4 scenarios where the negativity, the debate, the conspiracies have built up and up until people post almost in panic.

firstly when we were first talking to Thaksin, at this stage people were slating Wardle for amazing incompetence, posts were going up all the time that we were going down and were going bankrupt. Also all our team was leaving and we had the most incompetent owners and board ever. Those os us who looked at the squad and the finances and said hey things are not great but this is not the end of the world were slated as idiots. The along came Thaksin and Sven and all that panic, all that vitriol all that negativity was for nothing and was frankly a bit of a waste.

Then around April 2008 it started again, the whole squad was at war, Thaksin was sending us bankrupt, all our good players Hart, Richards, Dunne, Johnson etc were all off elsewhere and we were going down this year (if we were lucky and still existed). Total panic ensued, conspiracy theories reigned, first we were getting Warnock, then we got Hughes but he was going to resign a week later, all players were going and we were never going to sign anyone. Also no one would ever buy us because again everyone was incompetent and we were finished. Again this was all unecessary worrying. This was really the end of season batch and then the after Hughes batch.

Now the same thing is happening again, people are whipping up into greater and greater frenzies, first it is Hughes, then Hughes and cook. First it is only signing a few prem stars and not superstars and now it is panic that we will sign no one.

Why oh why do City fans on this board especially get into such ridiculous and OTT panics, does no one remember the panics that were false alarms before? Does no one remember where we have come from as a club? Does no one remember the panics last summer and think perhaps now it is not worth getting quite so worked up.

The worst thing is it is often the very same people getting into these impatient panics time and time again and really not remembering themselves. I sit here safe in the knowledge we will sign 4 or 5 players this window and some will be pleasant suprises. I sit safe in the knowledge that we will finish in places terms nearer 4th than bottom and that next summer if Hughes hasn't got us into the top 7 or can't get stars we will change to a really top manager. I sit safe in the knowledge that we will outspend anyone else in Europe in the summer and probably in Jan and quite frankly can't see what the panic is about and why people get so caught up in it.

Is it Kids who don't know City, business and the real world? Is it jokers? Is it professional wum's or is it real genuine good old pessimists?

please enlighten me!

My thought exactly.

Great points EalingBlue2, I was thinking exactly the same thing the other day. It's as though we will never be able to enjoy anything or rest easy cos something really bad is supposedly waiting around the corner.

If it's not relegation it's that the arabs are gonna suddenly sell us and leave us in the shit, what a load of wank!

I sometimes feel like I must be insane.

At the moment I am still pretty excited about City, we have as good a squad as we have had in my lifetime (already) and I have been watching City nigh on 30 years. I can dream about fantasy football in my head and it is not deluded fantasy it could happen. To even think Kaka could set up Robinho for a goal in light Blue city shirts a year ago would have meant institutionalisation. yet now one of them plays for us and the other at the very least discusses us a lot and has considered a transfer.

We have a fantastic ground now, we have an awesome academy, we have a manager we would have given our right arm for a year ago, we have no debt, we are the most finacially secure club in the world, we have 20 internationals (3 current brazilian ones).

Things are good, they are about to get a whole lot better and on nearly every front we are as well placed as at anytime since I first went in the 81-82 season.

yet you come on here and you would think it was an Oxford United board and our chances of getting back into the black and league football were gone forever!

What has happened to perspective?

What has happened to actually sitting back and being happy that things are improving and enjoying the ride to eventual success. heaven knows I have waited 30 years since I first took interest in the late 70's for us to do something and waiting another year and just enjoying Robinho, Ireland , Sweep seems fine to me. Most of the things that were a real worry have already gone!!!

Who cares about Bellamy????? he would walk into nearly every City side of the last 30 years if not every single one. Ok he is a tw*t but I hate to tell you so are most footballers, so have been most city players and so are a fair chunk of the populations of the UK, Aus and most of the world! City fans have idolised blokes who have been off the pitch complete %&^*^%s

very few players are like the Goat or Quinn or Alex Williams three players I have met who are complete and utter gentlemen and in my eyes amongst my favourite ever players!

We are 2 points off the drop mate.

with a strong squad and 50 odd points still up for grabs!

Whats the worst that can happen? Relegation? That doesn;t even hold the fear of poverty anymore!

I have enjoyed some great seasons in the lower league and seen all our recent relegation seasons and I can tell you this aint one of them!

I would say our squad is paper thin, and I can't see where the next win is coming from. A game of opinions I suppose.

A glass half full type of guy eh?

We've got wigan and newcastle at home, we could easily win both games, stop being s negative.

2 points off the drop but there are about 10 teams more likely to get relegated than us. You are exactly what EalingBlue2 is talking about

I went to the Fulham, Everton and Santander games. I desperately want to share your optimism but they were 3 of the most spineless clueless performances I've ever seen. So apologies for not clapping Mr Hughes on the back and urging him to carry on the good work, but I am desperately worried about our prospects.

Negative results breeds negative thoughts.
Our league position out of FA & Carling cups, negative leaks from Management and Players.
So it is fair that the supporters are a bit panicy at present, a few more good signings a good run of results will instill more confidence in both the team and fans.

I for one think this pic, tells a 1000 storys, the eagerness in both of them and the professional relationship can only benefit us,hughes now feels with a few more signings of hs own,our team will be extremely competitive,i also feel the same way!!!

Is that Hughes Team Talk?

Judging our season on Santander, Fulham and Everton makes as much sense as judging it on Shalke, Arsenal and Portsmouth. IE taking an extreme position that makes no sense.

Our season is best summed up by Arsenal, Everton and Fulham - ie a bit of everything.

As for the paper thin squad, it is a lot less paper thin than at least 15 of our rivals and a lot less paper thin than any City squad I remember.

With a fully fit side we could field a reserve side on a par with pearces City side that was goo enough to stay up.

Against Fulham we had 10 top players out FFS

i tell you our next win is at the weekend!

I'm with you Blue! Sorry for letting my negativity take over.

I would say that anyone who seriously believes that we aren't in big trouble is deluded.I base this entirely on what I've seen on the pitch in the last three months with my own eyes and our league position, nothing else.
I hope that Hughes can sort it out but I feel that he iS relying almost exclusively on this transfer window to get himself out of a pile of shite he's got himself into.
You can call that "panic," "negative" or whatever term you wish to use but to just shut your eyes, cross your fingers and pretend all is well is just silly.
MH will be here whatever happens I feel so unfortunately we're going to have this devided camp until hopefully either results and performances change or his position becomes completely untennable.

ThE BUCK STOPS AT THE TOP.END OF.

Well if he was panicking he would of made sure he would of got more than one in!!!

Fantastic post. Hallelujah, a fellow City fan who doesn't always think the whole world is about to cave in. I'm with you all the way Ealing Blue

Ealing Blue makes reasoned and balanced view of where City are at this time in their development. We are moving forward and there will be ups and downs along the way, it will not be a rocket trip to the top. I would rather see steady ambitious progress that can be sustained for 20 years not a quick flash bang. That will come by showing stability, ambition and intelligence backed up by our acadamy and financial resources. We have a better squad than we have had for years but it is still developng and changing. I for one am pleased that ADUG have shown faith in MH and not reached for the panic button when things are a bit rocky. The time for a decision is at least after one year when it can be seen if the team is progressing in the right way. Are we heading for a top four spot in 18months/2 years time.
