Where did the Yorkshire clubs go?

Good article that mate.

It is strange how they have fell away so spectaculaly, Leeds we all know what went wrong for them, living on the never never and going all out for the Champs league and forgetting about the prem until after Xmas when a late spurt stopped them from being relegated but with out Europe the money wasnt there.

As for Sheff Wed i'm going to suggest it was a similar thing, the wages the top internationals they had at the time must have cost a lot in wages, relative to the times of course and the money ran out and down they fell, similar to us really but we managed to battle back, but who's to say what would have happened to us if the Sheik hadnt stepped in.

It dosnt bare thinking about now.

Rule out the Leeds team that won the last ''old'' First Division ('92?) and Yorkshire football has been, if not shite, then in the doldrums for a LONG time. Wednesday had a fairly good side in the late 80's/early 90's and got to the odd cup final (better than us at that time!) but never really did that much in the league. Who else is there; the Blades? Average at best under Basset, shit since. Barnsley? One season in the top flight, I think. Bradford under Paul Jewell? Similar story to Barnsley (maybe one season longer). No one else really.

not bad that Kev, good point on Yorkshire football but although only Leeds and the two Sheffield's are the only ones who would deserve to be in the big league I reckon they have all mirrored the regions economic downturn, I don't think its a coincidence.

An old girlfriend of mine used to go to Sheffield Hallam University and I used to love going to Bramhall Lane on the weekends I used to visit. Mad 'eds in that town used to have that ground rocking when they were doing well in the Championship. Real shame to see such a great club with great support in such a position.

Great article too!

Leeds are definitely a Premiership Club. I'm not sure about Wednesday and United in Sheffield. Well supported but neither have been successful enough to warrant regular Premiership football. It's a bit sad to see them both in the 3rd tier. Stevenage are hardly the most glamorous of opponents.

you say the blades haven't been in the top tier since 1994... weren't they in it in the mid 2000's?
