Where did the Yorkshire clubs go?

Leeds are definitely a Premiership Club. I'm not sure about Wednesday and United in Sheffield. Well supported but neither have been successful enough to warrant regular Premiership football. It's a bit sad to see them both in the 3rd tier. Stevenage are hardly the most glamorous of opponents.

I look at both Sheffield clubs and for me both are big clubs in their own right - moreso Wednesday due to their trophy haul and support, but the Blades have big support too and could easily fill their 30,000-seater ground if they were back in the PL.

Bradford have good support too - they're near the bottom of the football league yet are still pulling in over 10,000 every home game.

It's fair to say that the Yorkshire clubs, as a collective, have under-achieved drastically over the last couple of decades but plenty of them are still decent sized clubs.

you say the blades haven't been in the top tier since 1994... weren't they in it in the mid 2000's?

One season. You must remember the Carlos Tevez scandal!

-- Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:48 pm --

They can't fill a 30,000 stadium in the third tier? That's not big support when you compare them to City.

Ienjoyed the piece Kev. That's your 4th or 5th piece in there now isn't it?

13th. i was suprised myself when i counted them up. i've got another 2 on the go and toma has suggested a few things as well. i like the idea of international kits as well after a lad at work had germany's 1990 world cup top on today.

They might not be getting the numbers we did in the third tier but they're still well supported in their own right.

Contrary to popular belief, we weren't selling out every week in Division 2 - some games did sell out and our crowds were very good but out of a stadium capacity of just over 32,000 our average was 28,000-plus.

Sure it was them that was pissed off after going down due to Tevez scoring at the pit on the last day to keep the hammers up at the Blades' expense. Warnock moaning about Tevez and Mascherano not being properly registered players or something.

Our fall was down to our chairman at the time thinking that on the back of staying up on the back of a last day eascape we had all of a sudden become an established PL side :( it's amazing that the goal that kept us up would cause so much damage to 3 clubs in the long run. And 11 years on we are still paying the price :(

I'm well aware of that because I was often at the match. I loved those days for a variety of reasons yet I'm fairly certainly I don't want to see us there again.
