Where do you expect us to come next year in the...

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but generally the best team wins the league. And that is not us. Not even close. We don't have the same winning mentality as the top teams, we don't have the media and the refs on our side and actually our football is pretty mixed. Great one minute and dire the next.

We'll do really well to get 3rd next year. 4th or 5th is not unlikely, in my view.

Clearly we are close. Played United three times, beat them once, drew once, lost once. beat chelsea once and lost once. drew with Arsenal once and lost once with ten men. Our players will have had more time together, and have matured a year (our stars are very young). And we may well finish top three or top four with a major trophy. How are we not even close? Who is that much better? Only disappointment is that we were so close, because with a bit more ambition and quicker chemistry, we could have won this year.

I expect us to win everything. But after all these years you would expect that I should know better............

Still optimistic

I think we have the squad and players to win everything. I hope if we win the fa cup that can give us more confidence but still feel we're not quite there yet so 2nd close 3rd i would say

I think City will be one of the teams with a legit shot at winning the prem next season.

We'll come 1st or 2nd.

The cup competitions are too unpredictable, it's pointless to predict these things from now.

Its not as simple as that though. For a start the traditional top 4(3 now) are in a highly weakened state compared to just 2 seasons ago - most put that down to squad transitions; United with Ronaldo, Arsenal's invincibles and Chelsea under Mourinho. Saving a catastrophe such as bankruptcy or managerial scandal, such as what happened to Liverpool, these clubs will strengthen again.

There is no doubt in my mind that City will become a top contender in the near future, but don't be disappointed if you have to wait a few seasons for it to happen. You see a lot of parallels drawn between City's acquisition and Chelsea's investment by Roman Abramovich when its not exactly the same situation. Chelsea were competing at the top half of the table before Roman came in, City were not. You had to start again from scratch, and as Real Madrid can teach us, you can't assemble any number of hugely talented players and expect results.

In my opinion the best thing you can do is find (or keep) a good manager for a sustained period of time - allowing him the leeway to experiment and mould a functional team. Its common opinion among many Chelsea fans that our revolving door policy with managers hindered us massively. Had we kept Mourinho or even my favourite Hiddink (God I wish he stayed) I believe we'd have been a lot better off in the long run.

So what I'm trying to communicate is, be a little patient with your team. You'll get there. What you've accomplished this year (or should accomplish) is an excellent start. Have a good run at the CL and secure top 4 again next season, maybe pick up another domestic cup. But don't go expecting them to overhaul Arsenal, Chelsea and United on their first outing as a top 4 side - or you'll just be disappointed.

Catch 22. If you say the target is to 'win the prem' then there are those who will want to burn the club down and start again if we miss by a handful of points. If you say it's anything less, they will say we are accepting too little.

Basically we have to be right in the race into the second half of April.

As for the CL, the draw would (if we even qualify) decide our chances. Spurs looked to have a horrible group containing the European champions and other strong teams, but it turned out that Inter were in freefall and the others were generally either distracted or in pretty mediocre shape. I really can't see that being the case if we got the same sort of draw but with Barca as the reigning champs!
