Where does the North end and the South Begin?

There is some method in their madness for those who retire early, sell up, buy a lovely house in a coastal town and pocket two or three hundred grand. Might be worth the hassle for those folk.

In 1990, I was working in Horley, next to Gatwick, and was looking in an estate agent's window at house prices compared to my own. Mine was valued at £80K, and equivalent houses there were going for £120K. At the time, I could just about have met the extra mortgage payments.

Fast forward to 2006, when I was there again, just before I retired, and those same style of houses were selling for £425K, whereas mine had only doubled in price!

If only I had moved in 1990 ( but then I would have been a cockney!). I'd now be living in a nice house in France, with loads of money in the bank. Ah well, look what I'd have missed.
 
I was born in Didsbury and I live in Coventry. It is definitely not the South. Hardly north though...I think there is a fair patch of England that is middle and not one or the other.
