Coming over from belfast, any advise on best bars before games??
My usual is Witherspoons in Piccadilly need to up my game?!

Anfield or Old Trafford......famous nights

Because we suffer from having barely any pubs around the stadium (proper shit situation!), there are very few places with a good atmosphere pre-game.

We don’t have any City pubs in the city centre, we just have pubs that some City fans go in but are also mixed with members of the public who aren’t footy fans so the atmospheres are always quite laidback.

Your best bet is Mary Ds. That’s literally the only place where there’ll be an atmosphere pre-game.

Seven Brothers, Second City, Crowne and Kettle, The Castle, Lower Turks Head.

All nice pubs/bars and will be busy with blues, won’t be any singing but will be a bustling atmosphere.

Mary D’s will have singing but it’s a toilet.

When Mary Ds is the answer you need a long hard look at yourself, Sinclairs is usually ok.

The Townley. Near the ground. You can stand outside drinking. Good crowd.

The MIB's tried to take it before the derby.

I’ve not been in Mary Ds since about 2006, but it says a lot about the situation we have around our stadium. There aren’t many shitter or smaller collections of pubs around any grounds in the country.

I’ve said for years that the dilapidated ‘Bank of England’ pub needs to be bought out and reopened. Between Ancoats and the ground, right by a tram stop, it’s ripe for development as a match day / local residents pub.

City themselves could even buy it.

The club are shit at stuff like this. The other year when they made a big song and dance about opening a ‘match day fan pub’ I thought it’d be something like this - what “we” actually got was the Ardwick, a tacky pub-themed new corporate area.

It also says a lot about the lack of places by the ground to get a drink that the squash centre sells warm cans of lager from their cafe and the queue snakes out of the door!

Fair play to them for their entrepreneurial spirit but Jesus…
