Where were you on Sunday 30th May 1999 (Gillingham play off game?)

Behind the goal and when the score was 2-0 not answering the call from my father-in-law who was in the Gillingham end!

Wembley.
Drove down Saturday morning, in the Chelsea Potter by midday and didn't go to bed in any meaningful way until Monday night. The weekend was, as my Cockney friends would say, a proper muncher.
As a side note: I was nearly run over on Kings Road by the late, great and very beautiful Susannah York (driving a white VW Polo).

I was in the Gills end, posted this about 6 years ago .........

Living in Maidstone and working in Gillingham I realised the only way of seeing this was to get tickets in the Gills end. I queued up for 4 hours each on 2 separate days to get 8 tickets. A couple were for me and my boy two others for city mates the rest for mates who just wanted a day out including a Sussex F A councillor. Amazingly on the tube met two Gills fans from Manchester who had city tickets, how they had them i just dont know. So two of us swopped and got in with City Fans. The rest as they say is history.
Incidentally Gills got back to a Wembley play off in the following season and took over 50000. Wigan had about 6000 !

Went down in car with wife and kids ( They spent the full day in London.) got to Wembley Stadium about 10.00am parked up right near stadium behind a Cop van. Got out and asked the copper were we alright to park there, his reply was "well we are " Could not believe it free parking so near the stadium. We crossed over the road to Wembley tube and went into London. Spent some time with kids then headed to the ground,I was meeting my lad in one of the pubs near the ground ,can't remember which one . As I approached the pub the fans were singing Tommy Booth, Tommy Booth ,Tommy Booth, (he was on the other side of the road), I shouted it's not that
It's He's here he's there he's every fucking where Tommy Booth Tommy Booth, All the City fans started singing it. Felt bad as he had his young grandkids with him. When we went 2.0 down made my way to the top of the stairs but did not leave, I remember thinking to myself (come on city if them red bastards can do it so can we) they had comeback to beat Bayern in the week. When we equalised Some random guy and myself were hugging and dancing .Stayed the rest of the game with my new best mate. Whenever I hear Rocking all over the World It reminds me of That Wembley day as it was bouncing as the team paraded. Great day great memories.

Didn't go to Wembley that day. I was in my back garden landscaping it - that was until I thought the game had ended and then switched the telly to Ceefax to find the excrutiating slow refresh of the page through extra time and then to penalties... then constant refreshing the page until thank f**k we won!

On the campus at Vanderbilt (go Dores!) halfway through my masters. My dad rang me and put the phone to the radio for the shootout. I’ve never dared ask him what that months phone bill was.
