Which 3 City losses have made you most angry with City, and which 3 losses have made you proud of to be a Blue!

Worst:

1985/86 Oxford beat us 3 nil at Maine Road, worst I had ever seen us play at the time

1986 Watford beat us one nil. A result that more or less confirmed our relegation again to Div 2. Luton was bad but then I was 13, this game I was more invested in the team and was going more games, home and away

5 nil at OT was a shocker. However Blackburn away under Pearce in the FA cup was a really bad day. Team were shite and it got nasty.

‘Best’
The 2-3 loss to Utd in the FA Cup has been mentioned a few times when Mancini was manager. I knew that day we had a team that could really challenge them.

Hamburg at home, the atmosphere alone made that night. The damage had been done in the away leg.

No other comes to mind

A really non-obvious one where I can recall being pissed off was when we lost at home to Spurs in the 2021/22 season. Went 1 down the first time they touched it, Mahrez scored a penalty in the 92nd minute to equalise (2-2 would have been a fine result!) and in the 95th minute Kane scored the winner. My anger was more to do with the context of the season than anything. After we had beaten Chelsea at home a month earlier it felt like we were on our way to retaining the title (which we did) but drawing at Southampton and then losing this game gave Liverpool an opening and it meant that the next 3 months were really intense resulting in the Villa at home game, which although great must have taken about 5 years off my life.

It's mental to me that people can remember results in this sort of granularity. I can barely remember the results from last month. I was always taught in football that last week doesn't matter, don't even think about it because it's not important and that mindset sort of stuck for some reason.

The only one that springs to mind that really pissed me off was when Owen scored against us in the Derby. Arsenal at home when they were 4-0 up at Maine Road in their pomp (somewhere in their Invincibles season) was maybe the proudest loss, not because of the players who were clearly outclassed but because Arsenal were so good that day that the City fans were applauding them and singing "it's like watching Brazil" and I was immensely proud of our fans for this.

Proud defeat for me was 3-2 loss to the rags in the cup

3-0 down half time
Down to 10 Men

We gave them quite a scare

Think the fact they seemed desperate avenge the 6-1, it ended up leaving them open at back.

This is the one I was going for as the proud defeat. Left me with no doubt in my mind that we were the best team in England.

Angry

Blackburn away in FA Cup Quarter Final under Pearce. Great opportunity to get through and we were pathetic.

West Ham Home in FA Cup Quarter Final. Pretty much the same as above. Shows how far we have come when I was devastated at the news Samaras was out injured.

Fulham Away first away game in Second Division. Thought we were boarding HMS piss the league after leathering Blackpool at home in first game but we got brought straight back down to earth and compounded the fact that we were still terrible.

Proud

Mentioned above but United when we got it back to 3-2 despite playing second half with 10 men

Strange one but Real Madrid defeat in Champions League last season. Felt like we had lost that invincibility a bit but made me realise just how far we had come and a bit of reflection on what we had actually achieved. Genuinely felt more proud than ever to be a City fan after that.

Another odd choice but Arsenal away in the Sven season. Think we lost 2-0 but it was just after the 1-0 United game and felt like we were genuinely at the top table as we should have taken a point out of that one at the very least. Think Arsenal got a penalty from a fuck up from Richards if my memory serves me right.

Was so proud after 4-3 v Spurs. Thought we played absolutely phenomenally and were robbed by VAR.
Very proud after Madrid last year, last Sunday and 4-0 were very hard to take, and 2021 UCL final was horrible.

Very hard to narrow it down to just 3 in each category but.....

Worst 3 losses
0-1 Luton (1983) - Unthinkable relegation
0-1 Wigan (2013 FA Cup Final) - Still narks me now.
0-1 Chelsea (2021 European Cup Final) - All that effort to get a ticket/flight/accommodation & get there, and the manager has a bright idea to change the system and the team doesnt turn up. Proper head fuck

Defeats that made me proud
2024 CL When we played Madrid off the park but couldnt score and went out on pens. Everyone in the ground knew who the better side was

Thats all Ive got.

If I started giving this serious thought, which three of hundreds of losses I’ve watched, I would just get depressed. A thread like this is a product of the current doom and gloom.
