Which bright spark has caused this?

"He's not good enough for the level we're at now" - What a load of shite!

How the hell do you know? How about we give him a chance? So arrogant to just dismiss a player to not be at the level we are. The same could have been said about Johnson when we signed him from the Championship and look how well he's done.

Just because he's playing at a lower level doesn't mean he wouldn't hack it here.

I've seen him play a couple times for levante and he really has made progress. much slimmer and quicker but still strong, but more importantly, he's frequently beating the offside trap instead of being caught off at every chance. think he could do a job as fourth striker, or at least do as well as jo, if he was willing to fill that role, but honestly, having had a good season, why would he want to come back and be fourth string when someone in spain or italy would surely be willing to take a chance on him?

He might well just refuse to sign for them if they're going to do that. I mean, would you take a contract from a company who told you "we'd like you to accept this small contract with low signing-on fees according to the terms of your transfer so that we can then sell your services to another company and make ourselves a huge profit, of which you will see little to nothing. Thanks for playing along, kiddo"? Why not just fob them off and go back to your original employer, and attempt to arrange a better deal for yourself without the middleman in between?

Two signing on bonuses ?

He wasn't good enough two seasons ago and he's nowhere near good enough now. Not quick enough, not strong enough and not good enough in the air.

That's why City got shut and he's plying his trade at Levante

Well I don't particularly want to get dragged into an argument based on whether he is good enough or not because I know its borderline. What I took issue with is the "million miles away" when he is quite obviously a good player.

I could equally say he's good enough thats why he's out scoring Forlan, Aguero, Fabiano, Benzema at a shite (?) club like Levante.
i'd say he's quite obviously a shit player that couldn't control a hard on

I highly doubt his first signing-on bonus will be much at all, and if he's going to be sold like this, surely he could engineer a better move for himself and get a bigger bonus from the one deal than the two together?

How many world class strikers are gonna want to come & sit on the bench like Jo, being back up to Tevez, Edin & Mario? The answer is none! Personally I'd keep big Phil & drop Jo off the end of the earth! In a nice way ;-). We need a team of balance not 25 egotistical stars. If anyone can think of a better player that could play up front on his own, as a pairing or on the left of a three pronged attack & be 4th choice I'd be very interested in hearing who they have in mind because I can't think of anyone.

lets see where big phil is in a year or twos time, no chance any of the big boys will jump in,not a prayer, hes at his level cant ya see it,big lump o lard.

One of the top scorers in what many consider the second best league on the planet? (Some will argue Germany but Spain gets favoured by pundits)

In said league he has scored more goals than... wait for it... Luis Fabiano, David Trezeguet, Alvaro Negredo, Sergio Aguero, Diego Forlan, Freddie Kanoute, Karim Benzema, and Nelson Valdez.

And people don't want him as our 4th choice striker (if he's willing to be that)? Who should we recruit instead then? We could take a punt on Guidetti who would cost nothing but Mancini would rather drink acid than promote our youths on a regular basis it appears. But finding a good fourth choice striker willing to sit on the bench will be very difficult. Lukaku would want more guarantees than "occasional football" despite his age.
