In my personal opinion, top to bottom, the Premier League is the most competitive; however, I think Spain has made it clear in the CL and EL that they probably have the best top talent.

I raise this question because I read an article in the Guardian from Paul Scholes, and I also wanted to point out that he essentially said said Sergio Aguero, David Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne were the best players in the league.

"There needs to be a real step up in quality in England. Other than Sergio Agüero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, we don’t have the best players. All the best players are in other countries."

Thoughts?

La liga has the most quality and have the best players in the world. La Liga is still competitive , contrary to what sky tell you. Real Madrid and Barca lost more games than Leicester did last season and chelsea the previous season

The likes of Mahrez,Kane and Vardy are regarded as some of the best players in the premier league, they wouldn't be the best in the spain or germany. I think the french league is a bit underrated too. People call it a crap league but they have developed some very good players in recent years like Hazard,Kante,Payet,Koscielny, Cabaye,Aubameyang,

It's cliche now to say you watch la liga and think it's better or the bundesliga, it doesn't make you more interesting or change people's perception of you to "footballing guru".

That said other than the very top teams in each country it's near impossible to judge the quality because they never play each other and nobody takes the Europa League seriously in the Prem(well Liverpool did and an ex academy player of ours ripped them apart, but other than that it's treated as a hindrance by most), La Liga has 3 big teams, Germany 2, Italy 1, we have several who can afford to compete for the best players. I do think Barca, Real Madrid, Athletico, Bayern and Juventus are packed with top talent more so than any of ours, we are definitely behind in that respect but I fully believe we now have the most competitive league in Europe. Even before Leicester won the league it looked the case and that was the nail in the coffin for that argument, that's a team that nearly got relegated the year before. People always try and make the case with stats but then you watch the games and it's obvious the smaller teams are nowhere near the top teams, in the prem besides the very bottom teams if a top team aren't 100% it can cost them against anyone and often does. I've watched Real play for instance and they've not been at it, things aren't always clicking as a team and yet they are rarely properly tested like teams would be in the prem in the same situation.

Scholes is just bitter because United's glory days are over so now it's all "boring" to him. ;)

Everything runs in cycles. Wasn't it between '04 and '11 we had something like 7 champions league finalists, made up of 4 different clubs. Look at Italy in the 90's, us in the 70's/80's, Germany early 70's etc. This is just Spain's cycle, in a couple of years normal order will resume and the Premiership will be the best for entertainment and quality again.

Like people have mentioned it goes in cycles.

La Liga has the best strength at the top but its a god awful league to watch. The problem is the 'weak' teams try to play good football against Barca and Real, they don't adjust their game which is why they get steamrollered. There's only so many 6 and 7 nils you can watch before you get sick of the teams making it too easy for them. Don't get me wrong they (Barca and Real) are class but a few teams in that league need to adopt the Atletico mentality.

For entertainment the Premier League and Bundesliga are easily the best leagues, Premier League edges it slightly due to Bayern's dominance but if Dortmund catch up this year then they'll be almost level. The best thing about the premier league is that due to the money, you get the odd stand out star at nearly every club in the league.
