Funny someone mentioning the Alarm, I was only listening to the summer of 76 earlier today, grossly under rated song in my opinion. If U2 had recorded it I am sure it would be a classic.
 
Too many to mention but some of my all time favourites are David Ruffin, Sam Cooke, Tammi Terrell, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Darrell Banks.....some who died far too young!!!

Spot on... there are really too many to mention. I did mention Jim Croce initially as I had just started to enjoy his music before he died.

The ones you mention certainly take me back.... gonna dig out the "Ssssh keep it to yourself" thread again.
