What is the obsession with City fans and DM's these days

It's like crack for City fans

Don't know of any obsession, but it's a position in which we lack quality. Look at most other top teams in Europe RM has Alonso/Kedhira, Barca has Busquets/Mascherano, Bayern has Schweinsteiger/Martinez and so on.... all which play a huge part in their respective teams, often the crucial link between defence and attack.

I initially had very high hopes for Garcia, having watched him play in Portugal on several occasions, but I'm no longer as convinced he'll be the player I first thought he'd be for us. We could do with a clone between De Jong and Pizarro.

Not sure I would call Alonso or Schweinsteiger DM's. I also disagree on needing one. It is a new position which turned up in terms of definition they just used to be called Midfielders. Roy Keane would now be called a DM but when he retired he was just a midfielder. Basically its a tackling Midfileder which I expect most central midfielders to be able to do half decently anyway

-- Mon Dec 17, 2012 10:17 am --

And I am serious.

Trust me, bluemoon scouts will never recommend Sinclair.

Its a free scouting and if it didnt help them, it will not harm them.

Man City have scouts and are given orders on what to look for with all sorts of parameters to work in. Bluemoon has a want we want list with made up transfer numbers. Im sure if Mancini and Txiki walked up to the scouts and said money is no object we need a top goalscorer, and skilful play maker a top DM and a proven central defender we would end up with Bluemoon transfer forum names but they are not given those sort of shackles off scouting

Maybe then we should first establish exactly what we mean when mentioning a DM. I my view, he's the MF player with that added defensive responsibility the other MF's do not have. He's the one who when deeded falls back to form a wall of defence together with the CB's, supports the full back when called for and so on.
In the past the traditional DM usually sat himself behind two CM's, but I don't see that quite as often these days. As you point out, they are more a part of the central midfield, forming a 4-2-1 or 4-3 rather than a 4-1-2.

Might be a punt, but would anyone consider bringing Flamini back to the Prem? He was brilliant before he went to Milan, hes struggled there with injuries and never really got a run of games but I think it would be a decent option if we could get him for cheap and maybe mug Milan off the way they did with us on De Jong.

What about Ever Banega at Valencia? Had the world at his feet a couple of years ago but managed to run over his own leg at a petrol station! Only 24 n plus the Argie connection always appeals to City. He's just returned from injury but here are a few clips from him 2 years ago. Only 24

Very Classy Player

Jorge Enriquez of Mexico. Best player in the Olympic football tournament by a country mile. A proper midfield general, the Hispanic Yaya. Only 21 and you could probably get him for relative peanuts from Chivas Guadalajara
