Whiskey in the jar, was not an original Lizzy song,but a cover of an old Irish folk song.(and it was great hearing Metallica doing Irish folk music)

I think it's their beat song as well even if it's not original.
It reminds me that Cream's "Crossroads"is a cover of an old blues song

Clapton released an album last year entitled ME AND MR JOHNSON.
It's just cover versions of ROBERT JOHNSON songs.CLASSIC!

Lynott was a great poet and lived the rock star life to the full.fantastic songwriter and one of the best frontmen in rock history.lizzy were one of the few rock bands that the punks had respect for and this was down to lynott i'm sure. live and dangerous still one of, if not the best live album ever.lynott could teach a few of the bling bling wanker "here's my new clothing line to go with my new cd" and doherty/winehouse generation how to be a REAL star.

Spot on Mikeyboy. Lizzy were all that and more. A hard rock band, still seen as cool throughout Punk, and still to this day. Amazing live act and I was lucky enough to see them many many times. Have met a few 'rock stars' in my time, but he was the one who really had that Star Quality to me. I was in awe of him.

If he hadn't died when he did, makes you wonder what he would be doing now? I know that before his death, he was very into the then emerging Funk/Rock hybrid bands like The Dan Reed Network, Stevie Salas's Colorcode, Extreme etc. And was talking of marrying thaat kind of stuff to Hendrix type blues. Could've been a potential mess in anyone elses hands, but he might just have pulled it off.

I fully agree, I love Thin Lizzys version, but Metallica nail the song, with a great video with some very good looking women :o)

Dubliners do a great version, which has a few lines in it which Lizzy removed for obvious reasons
