Who are the top 5 goalkeepers in the world

I thought Cech was losing it myself but that save he made with his feet yesterday to prevent Liverpool getting a 3rd was out of this world.

BTW, the IFFHS vote their top goalkeepers every year. 2009 list was:

1. Iker Casillas (Real Madrid )
2. Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
3. Júlio César (Internazionale)
4. Edwin van der Sar (FC United of Stretford)
5. Petr Čech (Chelsea)
6. Víctor Valdés (Barcelona)
7. Pepe Reina (Liverpool)
8. Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow)
9. Tim Howard (Everton)
10. René Adler (Bayer Leverkusen)

I smelt those blue-tinted specs as soon as I spotted the thread title. To say Joe Hart is in the top 5 goalkeepers in the world is hilarious! He is a very good keeper but come on, that's worse than the Spurs fans claiming Gareth Bale is world class!

1:Jose Reina
2:Juilo Cesar
3:Gianluigi Buffon
4:Hugo Lloris
5:Victor Valdes

Having said that, it's only reputations that are keeping a few of them up there. Casillas has gone backwards in quite big way imo, and that's why he doesn't make my 5. Buffon is always injured, and even Cesar has been hit and miss over the last year or so. Lloris looked 'flappy' at the World Cup, but i've seen have some top quality games for Lyon, and he can be my 'good on football manager' pick. Neuer looked similar by the way. Cech isn't the same keeper for me either. He's quite poor at times. Infact if he wasn't 40, i'd have Van Der Saar in there somewhere. Normally reliable and commanding, but he isn't as agile as he once was, and mistakes have even started to creep in to his game now.

Victor Valdes has come on a lot at Barca over the last few years. It's odd, that Spain have Valdes, Reina and De Gea, yet Casillas will remain number 1 by some distance, although De Gea isn't ready yet.

Joe Hart can't be far behind. His handling is normally exceptional. His kicking can be superb. He's a great shot-stopper, and his decision making is generally good. He's also pretty commanding and he's very young still. I don't want to jinx him so that's all i'm saying.

Then you have the reliable type like Howard, Friedel, Schwarzer etc...

Then you have the unreliable but occasionaly brilliant - Gomes for example. When we played them last season in the CL decider, i actually thought he was in unbeatable form.

In summary, i don't think it's as clear cut anymore. The gap is closing. Hart's probably not that far away from making the top 5.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Ryan Giggs. Purely for his contribution to the sport over the years he surely deserves a place in the top 5.....

Joe isnt in the top 5 yet though

Lloris is a bit erratic for me, but he's young and obviously has huge potential.

I think Diego Benaglio is very good.
