Who bought JO

Mark Hughes apparently oh and google is your friend :)

LONDON (Reuters) - Manchester City completed the signing of Brazilian striker Jo from CSKA Moscow on Wednesday in what new manager Mark Hughes said he hoped would be the first of several major signings.

City said the 21-year-old had signed a four-year deal and that his fee was a club record, though the amount was not disclosed.

City's previous record was for Nicolas Anelka's transfer from Paris St Germain in 2002 for around 13 million pounds and local media speculated that the fee for Jo was around 18 million pounds.

Jo is the first player signed by Hughes, who took over as manager from Sven-Goran Eriksson last month.

"He's an outstanding player and very much the sort of player we want to attract," Hughes told a news conference in Manchester.

"He's a big guy, he's used to playing in big games and we feel he can deal with the trials of a tough Premier League season.

"We've given notice of intent. We want to push the club forward and raise the profile. The acquisition of quality players will obviously help that and the arrival of Jo is the start of the process."

In this case Google isnt your friend, Hughes might have been the manager. But this deal was done before the end of the previous season, so it was either Sven or that thai bloke

Crucially Jo has been identified by Eriksson, as opposed to Thaksin's ill-advised pursuit of Ronaldinho, when the former England head coach played no part in the negotiations. Eriksson's strikers have generally struggled this season and the Swede, whose position has come under scrutiny during a disappointing second half to the season, has been hugely impressed by the scouting reports of Jo's form for CSKA Moscow, his club for the last two seasons.

The stumbling block is CSKA's valuation of the player, with City reluctant to pay £20m. However, the negotiations are already thought to be at an advanced stage, with a view to tying up a deal at the end of the season, and City are hoping to reach a compromise.

The "Hughes Out!" brigade usually try to pin this on MH.

This usually puts them right.
In no way am I an ITK, but I heard this was a done deal in March 08.
