Who created our current crest?

I never was a big fan of it however I've warmed to it since and quite like it now. especially with scall's bit about it not being a random eagle but symbolising a part of Manchester's history..i think its great.

I know there are always rumours floating around on here but do we expect the badge to stay as is at least for the next decade or so?am thinking its time to put it into a tattoo yet i dont want it to be the 'old badge' in a couple years time!

I'm gonna write a big article about it and stick it on wikipedia, because there's so many threads about it, and I'm sure "what are the three stars for" is the most commonly used phrase on here (after "Hughes out", "Mancini better than hughes" or "typical city")

:o)

It'd be good if you could. Personally, I don't trust wikipedia as in general there are lots of errors on there (though the people who focus on City tend to do a decent job). If you need references about the history of this badge or the others, I wrote about the evolution of the badge on pages 58-59 of "Manchester City The Complete Record."

Key point to remember that a lot of people get wrong - the ship does not refer to the Manchester Ship Canal. It does refer to Manchester's trade links, canals (Bridgewater etc.) and so on, but the Manchester coat of arms pre-dates the Ship Canal itself.

Worth pointing out that some research performed for Manchester City council has recently claimed that its an urban myth about the 3 rivers because they said they couldn't find any evidence to support it. They also got confused between the 1957 Manchester emblem (where the eagle comes from) and the official Manchester coat of arms.

Don't know how much they paid their researchers but it was clearly far too much!

having hearing the rumours that the City crest is changing and being bored today i thought i'd have a go.

Thinking of fusing elements of the current and classic crest, i went for something modern and classic, incoporating the "3 rivers of Manchester" in to crest ribbons, re-adding the Lancashire Red Rose set to a City Blue Shield of Arms and adding a patriotic RAF thingy to show our courage and success!! (and to please to mod squad out there).

I like it ;)

i know the arsenal and liverpool ones were updated, but i guess its a time thing over the years that some can seem outdated and need refreshing. Personally i dont see the need to change the current one, but rumours it was going back to the 70's one, which i think is a bad move if true.

Never thought it was that many

Much prefer the previous badge, simple and mighty fine looking.

Never have been much of a fan of the new one.

I think the new badge is better than the old one looks upto date with a bit of class about it. Like the way most of it has something to do with Manchester, the only thing I hate is them stars.

Make them stand for something for Christ sake not just to make it look good- they should have really thought about it and had 1 less and dedicate it to the league championships we have or add another one for the fa cup wins.

I thought that would of been obvious, but guess I was wrong.
