Who did we actually beat..?

I wonder if the team’s meticulous planning extended to what happens if we ever get more than one penalty during the match.
It seems to me that to have Kane taking a second penalty, esp against his club keeper, wasn’t the best plan (he says being wise after the event, I’ll admit). Too many mind games, doubts etc.

After he scored the first, Southgate should have insisted his second nominated, planned, penalty taker took it. Captain Kane himself is unlikely to have voluntarily given up the chance to take it, but Southgate should have overruled, and he didn’t.

This is the problem, we don't beat top ranked teams, we beat the teams that we should be beating.
Apart from City winning stuff I would love nothing better than a successful winning England team, but we're miles away.
I don't know what the answer is in respect of the manager, but it isnt Southgate.
He's far too cautious and he won't change, to play both Rice and Henderson is criminal, they havnt got an attacking bone in their body, combined they don't get even close to what Rodri does for City on his own, they don't show for the ball and instinctively pass backwards putting an already shaky defence under pressure.
Keeping Phil hugging the touchline and giving him no service is a waste of his talent, he should've been playing the same role as Greizman did for France, roaming around picking passes being creative and finding gaps, so much better when he comes inside.
We have some fantastic young forwards but we fail them, our game plan yesterday was to nullify Mpappe which Kyle did well, but because our two defensive midfielders are bobbins they had a field day.
Kane thinks he can play the 9 and 10 role combined runs himself into the ground, and then when he needs that burst he can't coz he's goosed.
We have the makings of a good team but we're managed by a dull, negative manager who won't change, it's a shame.

Couldn’t agree more - absolutely spot on.

The problem Foden has is with City when he receives the ball he has options, players who want the ball, players moving, players creating angles and players coming towards him ….with England he has stationary players who don’t want the ball and won’t create angles or players running away from him with their backs turned - he basically has no one to play football with who have anywhere near a City level of skill, confidence, ability or intelligence. Bellingham has potential but he needs a year of Pep before he would even begin to understand how you should play the beautiful game. We as City fans are blessed.

Coming into the Tournament I was anti-Southgate and I still think there's much room for improvement in his management. But this Tournament was easily the best football played under him, we just outplayed France, granted was weird approach vs USA and battered everyone else. He dropped Mount to the bench, that's evidential progress from him. The man deserves another crack at the Euros.

Funnily enough I agree with you. He dropped his favourites and England did look better.
But the best young player England have and southgate hasnt a clue how to play Foden. Yes he can play on the wing but his teammates cant pass to the left ! Always to Saka.
Southgate says Foden cant play in the middle. Foden clearly can and makes himself available for the pass out of defence.
Can southgate build his team around Foden our country best player ?

England win a game and the pundits/media go over the top yank style which in turn has many fans blindly expecting.
Then when they don't win the tournaments they feel short changed.
If only they stayed calm and composed until such time that England do actually win something, then they can go all uncle Sam and arrogantly claim to be immortals (as Lineker claimed they would the other night).
