Who did you play with or against in school or youth football who made it big time and what were they like as youngsters

About 15 years ago I was working for stockport Council labouring, we was on a street in edgely just behind county's ground ripping out bathrooms an kitchens. I was outside this one house having a smoke and a brew and there was about 8-10 little kids playing football in the street and one little lad had his city shirt on and he was clearly miles better than the rest of them tearing apart the bigger kids and I just remembered thinking to myself wow this kids pretty good, about 15 mins later a woman comes out of the next doors house and shouts "Phillip your lunch is ready" or something similar. Now am not saying it was but looking back now am pretty sure it was Foden when he was about 7 or 8. Never really thought about it until a few years ago and realised. I tell my son's now but there not having it.

I used to play football about 20 years ago with a bloke called Mark C, he was a young lad that every team wanted him to join. He had a few league clubs after him. Unfortunately, drink, drugs and girls took their toll.

Met him about 4 years ago in a supermarket and he told me he had cleaned his life up, and was working in schools around Stockport teaching sports. He said at the time he was associated with City as a scout and said he took young Phil to the City academy the first time

My claim to fame is that I met a chap in a pub whose uncle sat on bus next to a cleaner who once worked for a Firm that had bid for the contract cleaning of the toilets in a pub near Maine Road rumored to be once used by a relative of Mike Doyle's.

Somewhere in Argentina is a guy who worked for the local council ripping out bathrooms and kitchens telling his grandkids that he saw ...

I played for Openshaw Lads Club (Crossley House) in the early 70’s. Played against Carl Valentine in one game who went on to play for Oldham, West Brom and Vancouver Whitecaps. He tore me a new arsehole and scored a hat trick. I bumped into him years later in a hotel in West Bromwich when the West Brom team were staying there before a game. We had a bit of a chat and he said he remembered it (Not sure if he did - but I certainly did!). He was a really nice guy with time for everyone. He had a half decent career as well. 50 years later I still remember that game and cringe when I do!
Didn’t Carl Valentine run off with a schoolgirl when he was at Oldham?

Mike Farrelly

I played on the school team with him. He played for England Boys then Preston, Macc and Alty.

Died in his early fifties I think. RIP.

To be honest mate I have no idea if he did.
Might be doing him a disservice. There was an Oldham player called Groves who married a 16 year old and the education authorities tried to prosecute him because she left school before doing her o levels.

Trevor Sinclair at Monica's fast as fuck and John Sharples at Woodhey, got took on by the rags but released and had a career lower leagues captaining York City

Did you ever play with/against Colin Little? (went on to play for Crewe and Macclesfield in the EFL, now youth coach at United) if so you might have played with/against my uncle!

Top lad is Colin we had a good few nights out in the 90s with him his Wythenshawe mates

Played with Andy Goram (GK) at Oldham and John Lukic (lived with him, too) and Terry Connor at Leeds. Trained with the First Team, too, which was packed with internationals of the day, but never played in a game with them.

Played with Steve Kinsey at City for a bit, but always thought he was a bit of a Twat. Didn’t really know him that well, tbf.

Played with Kaz Deyna & Ade Coker in San Diego (Sockers) and against Rodney Marsh when he was Player-Manager at Tampa Bay Rowdies.

There are others whose names escape me now, but that was all a lifetime ago! I turn 60 this year, so most of that was 40 yrs ago!!
Very impressive mate :)

Was at school with Ishmael Miller.

You'd never have known he played for City (or played football in general) as he wasn't allowed to play any in/for school.

He was unreal at basketball though. Probably the hardest lad I knew growing up too.
