I have never understood the need to compare clubs on this basis, surely all that matters is how anyone feels about their own club. Same as which club has the most history which is all bollocks, if two clubs were both formed 100 years ago they both have the same level of history. Ok one club may have been more successful during that time but that's not the question.
Neither have I. It’s the chickenshittiest of all chickenshit ways to look at the sport. If City lose to Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup Final am I going to bed that night going, “It doesn’t matter, we’re a ‘bigger club’” as if that’s some kind of comfort or something I can lord over Wycombe fans? The fuck I am.

Moreover I don’t want a bunch of random “Is X bigger than Y” threads on bluemoon. We compare these two because Arsenal nicked Ajax’s kit? Fluminense wear the same colo(u)rs as an amateur team in Klamath Falls, Oregon — who is bigger?

Sorry OP — no offense — I detest the “my club is bigger” crap because it’s all bandwagoning American dippers and rags have said to me for the last twenty fucking years, especially the last ten.

I get that all the name calling is just dick waving but I'd also say it's interesting to learn and appreciate other clubs history (istreee!!!!) What Forest achieved will never be repeated for example. Looking at others history gives a deeper appreciation of our own. Nothing lasts forever except rag/dipper bum licking by the powers of darkness!

Thought the Ajax team of the early nineties was terrific. Arsenal are always club blazers boring about as exciting as receiving a box of Jenga at xmas. Let them write their cunts letters hopefully they'll soon have the best stadium in the Championship!

It's Ajax by a mile.

Measuring how "big" clubs are is dumb, but if you're going to do it, it's Ajax.

They've put a much bigger stamp on the history of football. Rinus Michaels, Cruyff, Total Football - Barcelona's entire identity is built on copying Ajax, their academy based on Ajax's, their best teams built either by Cruyff or his greatst disciple (Pep). In turn, our entire academy, the style of play our upper management is trying to create is based off Ajax's via Barcelona, and we're not the only ones either.

It's not just that they've won the European Cup 4 times, the teams that did it were reference points for decades later. The "Gloria Ajax" years and total football, then the van Gaal youngsters with Kanu and Overmars and Seedorf.

Not to mention the talent factory they are - van Basten, De Boer, Rijkaard, Bergkamp, Davids, Seedorf, Cruyff... you could literally name 50. Not all in the past either, they still constantly pop up at the top of the lists of clubs with most academy products in the top 5 leagues in Europe.

6 Ballons D'Or out of that club, none for Arsenal.

Then there's the usual stuff - the only club in one of the world's greatest cities, the biggest club by a mile in one of the world's great footballing nations.

Arsenal could stop existing tomorrow and no one would really notice - Spurs and Chelsea and West Ham and Fulham and Palace would just swallow up their fans.

So trying to work out what clubs are bigger is stupid, but in this case it's Ajax.
