Who is going to admit they was wrong about De Jong

I admit it, already have done on here in fact and happy to do so. But my orginal view was based on what he did last season in a blue shirt, just like how i've changed my view on him watching his performances this season in a blue shirt and being a big fan of hughes and his buys i kept waiting last season for him to come good on the basis that hughes knows what he's doing...but his performances if anthing got worse, highlighted by the game at old trafford...(a nadir) a liverpool mate rang and said who's the bloke who can only pass backwards ten yards, can't intercept danger or tackle properly and never carried the ball over the half way line.

This season of course i've been well impressed with his all round game, not just his tackling, interceptions but his willingness to get forward and offer support. Why the change? and there has been a change, maybe he's had a full pre-season to get over his injuries and train with the team (no europa cup to disrupt training) but maybe also he's now playing with better players who can pass and move like the dutch national team.

Coming back from the injury and moving to a new country were the obvious stumbling blocks. But I feel De Jong showed signs of the player he was last season. I think a lot of people are short changing some of his performances. Against Liverpool and Spurs away he was outstanding. His play was also limited by the inclusion of Kompany along side him. Now he has Toure who can bring the ball out and link play, Barry next to him, Tevez and Bellamy coming short, SWP moving inside. He has options to distribute the ball to once he has won it. We really lacked that last season.

Slightly off topic but there have been a few threads recently about people saying they were wrong.

Bellamy, De Jong, Hughes especially.

Perhaps this is a lesson that we shouldnt be too quick to judge, and that the people in charge do actually know better than us.

By the same token, we shouldn't be too quick to proclaim success.

Bellamy has been exceptional in his last three matches, De Jong likewise, and I can't fault Les for the results we've got under him so far this season.

But none of them have achieved anything yet.

same here

Yep, my hands are held high on that one!

i never really liked him at all, an when i saw what we paid for him i was like ffs!!!
But now seeing him play a lot closer, i take my hat off to him and to city! Hughes did say "we need craigs personality in the dressing room" and to be fair he was 100% right. Look at our improvement since jan 08 til end of season. And again this year so far

'De Jong was very average last season and just like the last 30 of the derby, he could become almost invisible. Thats why people were getting on his back a bit.

However that 30 mins apart,'

Did'nt realise he was still on the pitch for the last 30mins of the derby.

His tackling is better than Mascheranos and his range of passing now involves 40yards over the oppositions barnet, something he would have dreamt of last year. I think Kompanys prowess on a football pitch will suprise a lot of folk this year, personally i think he's better than we've seen to date.

Tbf you're just saying that to back up about what you think of Bellamy. Anyone who know's anything about football know's the two of them are top class players who have shown this for previous Clubs and at International level.

£13m steel imo.
