Who is the best City goalkeeper in history?

Trautmann was my first City hero, since it must be him. The old codgers in the Kippax way back always said Swift. In modern times, TC was the best but I feel Ederson may turn out to be the best of all...already showing great sweeper keeper qualities of speed, bravery and distribution. Eddie the Ink to be a legend.

We've had many great keepers. I'm pretty sure no other club have had as many.

Until Ederson or Hart can dance the night away in the discotheque royale then play the next day like he's Dino Zoff then I'm afraid they don't even come close to Dibble.

Other than him in my life time I'd say TC, Big Joe or Niall Quinn.

just missed out on seeing Bert, Swift was long gone. so from my time i'd go with TC, Edison has really impressed and could easily take that mantle. Joe deserves an awful lot of credit, up to Pep turning up he was great for us.

Over the years I've interviewed a lot of fans and former players and often asked this question. All who saw both Swift and Trautmann at their pick (and probably all dead now sadly) reckoned Swift was the best 'keeper. Those who only saw the end of Swift's career claimed Trautmann was best. A few years back the City Mag claimed Corrigan was the greatest ever 'keeper. Personally, I prefer the view of former City player Johnny Williamson who played with both Swift & Trautmann. When I interviewed him a few years back I asked the question and he said: "I'll tell you what, you pick one for your team and I'll have the other because whichever one I get will still be better than all the rest. Trautmann was best non-British 'keeper and Swift was the best British 'keeper but which one was best is immaterial."

my dad always said Frank shaded it.

Joe Hart would probably be better than Swift and Trautmann together because modern technology / fitness regimes / training methods etc etc mean he would be head and shoulders (no pun) better if there was a "time machine" where they all played at the same time. Same could be said, to a lesser degree for Tony Coton. However if the question was transposed to "all born on the same day with access to same opportunities who would be the best it may be totally different. However as it's not, then Joe Hart all day long followed by TC followed by Joe Corrigan (not including people like James or the Utd one cos they weren't here long enough)
