Possible also that Berlusconi got scared of the backlash & started buggering around whilst setting the media up to use the whole thing for him to look like a hero, so City bailed out. No coincedence that the stories came out as if Kaka was about to sign then suddenly he released a statement looking like he'd saved the day. Imo he's behind both stories.
