Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

'kin hell I was hoping we'd get one of the final two standing down so they could have a coronation in the summer.

Doesn't look very likely now.

I suppose we'll just be left rudderless then until the autumn.

And why not? Only facing dreadful economic crisis, brexit stuff, COVID waves, primary healthcare failing, Ukraine, etc etc.

Boris literally fled and abandoned the country when it got tough. It seems that's spread back into the Tory party.

Will the new leader even show up, when eventually, Parliament and Government get back to business?
Seems like Johnson’s government want the current stasis, or just make it what they want while they coin our money.

I’d have to go with Starmer. From what I’ve seen, he’s the perfect boring bastard who could unpick some of the shit road that this fucked up government has taken us down.

I think this country needs a reset and a bit of boring, sensible politics is needed for us to get past the last few years.

Starmer is a genuine bloke. He knows what it is like for hard working people, and he actually has that conservative mindset of hard work being rewarded, but with that labour understanding of equality and opportunity being paramount to pairing hard work and success.

We've had a week or so of nonsense from these Tory wannabe's telling us they're less out of touch than the other. It's all bollocks. Sunak wants us to believe his father-in-law is a real life slumdog billionnaire when he didn't come from abject poverty in India. Badenoch knows how tough it is because she worked in McDonalds whilst at university...which was paid for by her GP Dad and Lecturer Mum. Truss just floats whichever way the breeze goes to stay popular and Morduant...well I don't think she has a clue what is going on but is the best option.

Ultimately the Tory right will make sure Sunak doesn't get in. Not because of the tax scandal or partygate but because he isn't white.

What we really need from Starmer is a bit of summer political training. He isn't in court where emotive, intellectual speeches win cases. He is in a playground where childish remarks make headline news and win voters. He needs to unite labour, bury Brexit, sort out the unions and present a clear vision. If we are a couple of years from an election then he can put his feet up, they'll be ready to hand the keys straight over by then.

What’s needed from Starmer are policies. What, exactly, are Labour offering, that is significantly different, and better, policy-wise? And spare me rhetoric of “honesty, integrity “. I want down in the weeds, detailed policy stuff.

Burying Brexit might be a tough one (and it's still tender) but as the country sinks I would'nt bet against a big, adult conversation around it especially once the architects of it are laid bare.

A lot can happen in the next two years. The Stockholm syndrome voters will have forgotten about all this shit and will vote Tory out of fear of "The Socialist Labour Party destroying the country" or some other divisive bollocks.
The media will ensure that their key voters will be there but there will still be anger lingering, especially those in the red wall seats who will be even further behind the curve. It’s just a matter of people reminding everybody of what these fuckers have done to this once great nation.

Hopefully that conversation will take place.

It'll take the tories getting kicked out though imo.
As for burying Brexit,too late.

Even then I doubt there will be a huge appetite for carrying out,and publishing,a full and frank investigation into said "architects".

First thought penny would piss it now looks like Truss and Sunak will be the final two and with a month of going around the con Members I feel we will end up with Sunak as PM

Your first paragraph is interesting.
Mr Starmer is a multi millionaire which is severely frowned upon on here, even if it is accompanied by hard work and success.
Nobody, apparently, with a few quid could not possibly relate to the working classes.
If you don’t believe me,see how much stick Rishi has had not over his policies but his money or more to the point his wife’s.
I will ignore the race card cheap jibe, you just need to look at how many of the original candidates were of colour.
