Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

Staying would tear the party apart. They'd basically be admitting that they can't unseat a leader, and that's unthinkable.
I think Brady would go and tell him to get out; next the Conservative Associations would revolt as they did against May.

Johnson actually has to go to the Palace to resign, and I don't think that's happened yet. He's hanging on so he's definitely in office longer than May!

What is clear is he and many members feel he was betrayed and cut down to soon. All this is

On the basis they are about to vote in Liz Truss who will be awful as PM there will be a simmering unease in the party going forward. Presumably if Boris sits there as a backbencher they could reinstall him at almost any point going forward as long as they have enough votes to kick Truss(or whoever) out.

So in theory a route back for BJ is quite easy but on the other hand - if he tried that I think the party would rip itself apart. A significant number really hate him.

If he tries to get back in, it will be once the general election has happened.

Then he could presumably stand if he's still an MP.

That's partly down to journalism, and the audience's attention span.

But for whoever is talking to TV crews, it's not the ten minutes interview that matters but the fifteen seconds that gets on the news bulletins.

PMQs shows up Johnson as rambling but the news just carries one rant about the opposition.
Oh I agree entirely. I wasn't suggesting our politicians are all equally cynical I don't for a minute believe they are. I think there are huge differences in behaviours. What I think has happened is that journalistic standards, the impact of technology on 'news' and the concentration of press power into a small number of vested interests has catapulted us to a situation as bad as the US already was back then. The players aren't necessarily any better or worse than previous generations but the field of play has become a cesspit.

It's become a vicious circle where people and even parties who don't want to play the game have to resort to it in order to be heard. A downward spiral that corrupts public discourse and often consciously seeks to dumb the entire debate down. We will not fix it until we do something about our 4th estate and get to grips with the behaviour and business models of certain types content platform.

Looking like it's Snake v Truss in the final two.

Pretty much guarantees that I won't be voting Tory next time round.

So, my vote is up for grabs. I wonder if any party is going to appeal enough to get it.

Have you rebranded yourself as Captain Foresight?

We are getting into pedantry. Like you I don't have an ideology(although you did then call yourself a social democrat or was is it a democratic social....... all getting Monty Python)

People like to be put in boxes or get forced into them. Its why we have so many different terms for peoples political persuasions.
It’s hard being a political trans. ;-)
